Se faire affubler d’un surnom au Congo fait partie de l’usage. Lui, on l’appelle « inspecteur », peut-être parce qu’il est fils d’un officier militaire, mais peut-être aussi parce que sa musique scrute les moindres recoins de la rumba congolaise, celle de Tabu Ley Rocheleau ou de Zaïko Langa Langa. L’exubérance de ce chanteur, compositeur et chorégraphe n’a d’égale que la liesse de son public. Sans aucun doute, c’est un vrai, qui est là pour ambiancer !
In the Congo, it’s not unusual to be given a moniker. Guynard Mungu is called “l’inspecteur,” perhaps because he’s the son of a military officer, but maybe it’s also because he scrutinizes every aspect of Congolese rumba, be it that of Tabu Ley Rocheleau or Zaïko Langa Langa. The exuberance of this singer, songwriter and choreographer is matched only by the enthusiasm of his audience.
