Membre fondatrice du groupe no wave DNA, improvisatrice de grand renom, pionnière de l’utilisation de l’échantillonneur et de l’ordinateur, compositrice aux multiples talents, IKUE MORI mène une carrière de haut niveau, carrière d’ailleurs saluée en 2022 par une prestigieuse bourse MacArthur Genius.
On ne compte plus ses visites au FIMAV, mais c’est la première fois que nous la présentons à la tête d’un projet. Et quel projet!
Pendant la pandémie, MORI a collaboré à distance avec une dizaine de musiciens sur un corpus de compositions parmi ses plus délicates et invitantes, publiées sous le titre « Tracing the Magic » (Tzadik, 2022).
Au printemps 2022, elle a formé le groupe du même nom avec cinq de ces partenaires : NED ROTHENBERG, SYLVIE COURVOISIER, CHARMAINE LEE, DAVID WATSON et Sae Hashimoto. Celui-ci n’a donné qu’un seul concert, à New York. Pour nous, elle réactive cette formation, le batteur CHES SMITH remplaçant Hashimoto.
Nous sommes ici en présence d’une musique éminemment avant-gardiste, mais pleine d’une beauté mystique susceptible de toucher n’importe quel auditeur.
IKUE MORI is a founding member of the no wave band DNA, a renowned improviser, a pioneer of the sampler and the laptop as live instruments, and a multitalented composer. In 2022, her high-flying career was rightfully acknowledged by a prestigious MacArthur Genius Award.
MORI has performed countless times at FIMAV, but this is the first time she will be spearheading a project. And what a project!
While the pandemic was raging, MORI collaborated remotely with ten musicians on a corpus of some of her most delicate and inviting pieces. The album, entitled « Tracing the Magic », came out on the Tzadik label in 2022.
In the spring of 2022, MORI formed an ensemble by the same name with five of these partners: NED ROTHENBERG, SYLVIE COURVOISIER, CHARMAINE LEE, DAVID WATSON, and Sae Hashimoto. This group performed only once, in New York City. For us, she is reactivating this unit, with drummer CHES SMITH subbing for Hashimoto.
This is clearly avant-garde music, but so full of mystical beauty that it can be appreciated by anyone.
