NADAH EL SHAZLY est une chanteuse et une artiste sonore originaire du Caire, en Égypte. Elle combine éléments traditionnels, enregistrements de terrain et multipistages vocaux traités électroniquement en aventures auditives qui vont d’envoûtantes chansons détournées à des explorations sonores sophistiquées.
EL SHAZLY a récemment déménagé à Montréal, où elle entretenait déjà des liens avec la communauté musicale expérimentale. D’ailleurs, son premier album, le poignant Ahwar (2017), avait été arrangé en grande partie par SAM SHALABI et enregistré à l’Hotel2Tango avec l’aide d’une impressionnante liste de musiciens et musiciennes d’ici. Depuis la sortie de cet album, elle s’est produite en concert dans le monde entier, en solo ou en quatuor, raffinant sa présence scénique et enrichissant son art de multiples façons.
Pour son passage à Victoriaville, elle sera accompagnée de ses plus récents collaborateurs : SHALABI, RADWAN GHAZI MOUMNEH (l’artiste derrière Jerusalem in My Heart), SARAH PAGÉ (The Barr Brothers) et JONAH FORTUNE (Land of Kush, Matana Roberts). Une instrumentation acoustique-électrique inusitée pour un concert qui promet déjà d’être une des grandes découvertes de l’année!

NADAH EL SHAZLY is a singer/sound artist from Cairo, Egypt. She is blending folk music elements, field recordings, and multitracked manipulated vocals into aural journeys that range from seductive derailed songs to sophisticated sonic explorations.
EL SHAZLY recently moved to Montréal, where she already had strong connections with the experimental music community. In fact, her first solo album, the gripping Ahwar (2017), was largely arranged by SAM SHALABI and recorded at Hotel2Tango with the help of a who’s who of Montréal’s finest Musique Actuelle musicians. Since the release of that album, EL SHAZLY has travelled the world to perform solo or with a quartet, constantly fine-tuning her stage presence and enriching her music in multiple ways.
For her appearance in Victoriaville, she will be accompanied by her most recent collaborators: SHALABI, RADWAN GHAZI MOUMNEH (the man behind Jerusalem in My Heart), SARAH PAGÉ (The Barr Brothers), and JONAH FORTUNE (Land of Kush, Matana Roberts). An unusual acoustic/electric instrumentation for a concert that already promises to be one of this year’s most endearing discoveries !
