Genres and styles : Experimental / Contemporary

Additional Information

Artist in residence at the Suoni 2026 where she will be involved in 5 different events from June 16. Living in Vancouver, Anju Singh is a composer, sound artist, and multi-instrumentalist. Violin, pipe organ and electronics are among her improvising and composing tools, she also blends western old or new music with her South Asian background.
“She explores dynamics, texture, and pure sound in her compositions and improvisations. As a musician, she is interested in extended and experimental techniques, as well as the repurposing of traditional instruments in new contexts. This sometimes leads her to design and build her own instruments, inspired by existing ones. Her preferred materials include musical instruments, synthesizers, the voice, electronics, found or custom-made objects, samples, and field recordings. Anju has presented her work in Canada and internationally, notably in the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Europe, and Japan. In addition to her musical and sound practice in the fields of improvisation, experimental music, and sound art, Anju also performs under the name The Nausea and is a drummer and guitarist in various metal projects. She is the curator and director of the Vancouver Noise Fest, an independent, self-funded festival dedicated to noise music, now in its 11th year.”
