Additional Information
The Voxpopuli Quartet is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2026-2027. Formed by excellent artists (Antoine Bareil and Uliana Drugova, violins, Cynthia Blanchon, viola, and Dominique Beauséjour-Ostiguy, cello), the ensemble presents a series of concerts each year that take on a completely different look from the traditional format. First, the format: there are triptychs dedicated to a theme (composer, school, etc.), which must be taken as a “package deal” like a restaurant trio combo, in order to delve deeper into the subject; and there are “à la carte” concerts, which each time focus on a composer. There is also the context: the audience is invited to bring their own bottle of wine (which they can share with others). Then, there is the atmosphere: a friendly audience, as curious as it is knowledgeable, and without any kind of elitism, to which are added the scholarly but above all playful and humorous presentations by Patrick Mathieu, composer and lecturer. Finally, since last year, the atmosphere has been enhanced by the now permanent venue for these concerts: Sainte-Hilda (in the Rosemont district), an Anglican church of exceptional intimate warmth, transformed into a cultural space. I spoke with Patrick Mathieu about all this.
