For her debut EP, the Manchester, Jamaica-based singer borrows the assured neo-soul and early roots influences that have made her a rising star since 2017. With more than 1.5 million views of her “Where I’m Coming From” video, the protégée of Protoje and member of the In.Digg.Nation collective now offers seven recent songs including that one and the very danceable, summery “I Spy”. “Second Chance”, borrows Dennis Brown’s classic “Promise Land” rhythm and “Thy Will”, that of Sly & Robbie’s “Baltimore”. Those, “Forget Me” with its hip hop accents, and “Stars Align”, a bit more pop, all put forward her angelic and crystalline voice. Although she doesn’t classify herself as a reggae artist as such, Lila Iké is already one of the three most prominent female artists in Jamaica, along with Koffee and Jaz Elise.
