Canadian soprano Rachel Krehm is not just an opera singer. She is also a producer, writer, and a strong advocate for opera in Canada. In 2012, she founded the company Opera 5, where she remains the executive director to this day. The company’s mission is to introduce audiences to famous works, forgotten gems, while promoting new creations and fostering emerging Canadian artists.
As part of Opér’actuel—the musical event that has evolved into a biennial festival organized by the company Chants libre—she will present a musical performance of her opera Come Closer on September 22 at Salle Paul-Buissonneau. The opera tackles the subject of grief, based on poems by her sister Elizabeth, who passed away in November 2012.
