A Winged Victory for the Sullen

A Winged Victory for the Sullen est un projet de musique ambient formé par les compositeurs de Redbird Music et collaborateurs de longue date Adam Wiltzie et Dustin O’Halloran. Le duo s’est rencontré en Italie il y a plusieurs années et ne prévoyait initialement sortir qu’un seul album sous le nom A Winged Victory for the Sullen, mais le projet a continué d’évoluer et les deux artistes ont depuis enregistré quatre albums complets, un EP et une bande sonore depuis leur formation en 2011.

A Winged Victory for the Sullen are an ambient music project by Redbird Music composers and frequent collaborators Adam Wiltzie and Dustin O’Halloran. The duo met in Italy many years ago and initially only intended to release a single record as A Winged Victory for the Sullen, but the project has continued to live on and the pair have recorded a total of four full length albums, an EP and a soundtrack since forming in 2011.

&Rubber

&Rubber est le duo montréalais de post-post-punk expérimental formé de Laura Jeffery et Jackson Darby. Laura Jeffery (anciennement de Fountain) et Jackson Darby (NPNP) trouvent un terrain d’entente entre l’esthétique no wave et la musique concrète. Une batterie envoûtante et anguleuse contraste avec des drones chaleureux au synthé modulaire et les grincements organiques d’un daxophone DIY. Imaginez Can qui croise Jon Hassell au lave-auto.

&Rubber is the Montréal-based experimental post-post-punk duo of Laura Jeffery and Jackson Darby. Laura Jeffery (perviously of Fountain) and Jackson Darby (NPNP) find common ground between no-wave aesthetics and musique concrète. Entrancing yet jagged live drums contrast with soulful modular synth-driven drones and organic DIY daxophone screeches. Think Can meets Jon Hassell in the car wash.

POP Montréal 2026 : Thee Soreheads, Mario2, Tiger Really et Activemirror au Quai des brumes

Thee Soreheads

Thee Soreheads, c’est un band punk montréalais à voix féminine, actif depuis 2023. Elles font des tunes rapides, bruyantes, un peu croche, sur tout ce qui leur tape sur les nerfs—les mauvais chums, la masculinité toxique, pis le reste. C’est du riot grrrl avec une touche garage punk, pas trop réfléchi, juste direct au point. Elles chantent surtout en anglais, avec un peu d’espagnol, pis veulent amener plus de français là-dedans aussi.

Thee Soreheads are a female-fronted punk band out of Montreal, kicking about since 2023. They make loud, fast, messy songs about the stuff that gets under their skin—bad boyfriends, toxic masculinity, and all the usual nonsense. It’s riot grrrl energy with a garage punk edge, no overthinking, just calling it like it is. They mostly sing in English, throw in some Spanish, and are keen to bring more French into the mix.

Mario2

Mario2 est un groupe qui n’a pas passé des années à peaufiner son son. Luigi (Simon Angell), Princesse (Karolanne Carbonneau) et Toad (Antoine Corriveau) ont écrit, arrangé et finalisé leur unique album en un après-midi, puis l’ont enregistré en trois jours. Inspirée des « groupes normaux », leur musique est un buffet ambitieux (brut, superflu et follement précis).

Mario2 is a band who didn’t spend years perfecting their sound. Luigi (Simon Angell), Princesse (Karolanne Carbonneau), and Toad (Antoine Corriveau) wrote, arranged, and finalized their only LP in one afternoon, then recorded it in three days. Drawing from “normal bands,” their music is an ambitious buffet—unfiltered, unnecessary, and wildly specific.

Tiger Really

Projet emo dont la tête d’affiche est d’origine asiatique, mêlant les sonorités de la 5e vague emo à des influences inattendues issues du jazz, du folk et du shoegaze. Les chansons explorent des thèmes de deuil et d’abandon, puisés dans l’expérience unique de Lian en tant que personne immigrante de première génération ayant grandi au Canada. Basé à Vancouver, en Colombie-Britannique, le groupe est signé chez Counter Intuitive Records.

Asian-fronted emo project that blends 5th wave emo sonics with unconventional influences from jazz, folk, and shoegaze. Songs explore themes of grief and abandonment, based on Lian’s unique experiences as a first generation immigrant growing up in Canada. Based in Vancouver BC, signed with counter intuitive records.

Activemirror

activemirror est un groupe d’Aruba qui fait de la musique post-punk/alt au cœur d’une scène culturelle vibrante où le reggaeton, le soca, le calypso, le tumba, entre autres, dominent. Comme notre son se situe en dehors de ces traditions, nous avons créé notre propre voie et développé notre projet à l’international.

activemirror is a band from Aruba creating post-punk/alt music in a place where reggaeton, soca, calypso, tumba, among others, shape a vibrant cultural music scene. Because our sound sits outside the island’s traditions, we’ve had to carve out our own lane and take our music abroad to grow.

POP Montréal 2026 : Fyore, LYDOL, Spitty et SEMIAH à l’Esco

Fyore

Fille d’un père togolais, d’une mère québécoise et d’un beau-père haïtien, Fyore porte en elle des héritages multiples qui nourrissent une musique résolument sans frontières. Inclassable, elle bouscule la pop en mêlant Afropop, Rnb et électro. Faisant tournoyer sa voix de soprano si particulière comme sur un terrain de jeu, elle expérimente et se surpasse, toujours avec spontanéité, curiosité et aplomb. Après la sortie de son premier EP DZIDZI en 2024, elle prépare maintenant un premier album qu’elle décrit comme son premier vrai souffle. Co-réalisé avec Cedrik Heynemand et enrichi d’un coaching en beatmaking d’Ouri, ce projet affirme sa maîtrise totale de son univers. Enracinée dans ses origines, elle s’accompagne du tama, symbole fort d’un retour aux racines.

Daughter of a Togolese father, a Québécois mother, and a Haitian stepfather, Fyore carries multiple cultural lineages that shape a sound with no borders. Unclassifiable, she disruptif pop by blending R&B, Afropop, and touches of EDM, crafting a style that is both fluid and daring. Her singular soprano voice becomes a playground where she experiments freely, pushing her limits with spontaneity, curiosity, and confidence. After releasing her debut EP DZIDZI in 2024, she is now preparing her first full-length album, which she describes as her true creative breath. Co-produced with Cedrik Heynemand and enriched by beatmaking mentorship from Ouri, the project marks her full artistic ownership. Rooted in her heritage, she incorporates the tama, a powerful symbol of returning to one’s origins.

LYDOL

Slameuse, chanteuse et conteuse, Lydol façonne un projet artistique né de la fusion entre ses racines africaines, la force de l’oralité, sa quête d’un langage musical qui panse les maux. Porté par des influences d’Afro Fuzzion, de Modern Jazz et d’AfroSoul, le slam de Lydol amplifie les voix des femmes invisibles, des survivantes, des rêveuses, des oubliées.A slam poet, singer, and storyteller, Lydol has crafted an artistic project born through the fusion of her African roots, the power of oral tradition, and her quest for a healing musical language. Influenced by Afro Fuzzion, Modern Jazz, and AfroSoul, Lydol’s slam poetry amplifies the voices of invisible women, survivors, dreamers, and the forgotten.

Spitty

Spitty est un rappeur et leader communautaire indo-canadien originaire de Brampton (près de Toronto). Sa musique, à la fois énergique et profonde, vise à inspirer ses auditeurs. Il mêle samples et instruments sud-asiatiques à des influences nord-américaines pour donner naissance à une approche culturelle du hip-hop. Spitty puise son inspiration chez des artistes comme Eminem, Kendrick Lamar et J. Cole.

Spitty is an Indian-Canadian rapper and community leader from Brampton (just outside Toronto). His music carries an energetic yet thoughtful nature as he strives to inspire listeners through his songs. South Asian samples and instruments blend with North American influence to birth his cultured approach to hip hop. Spitty draws inspiration from artists like Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, & J. Cole.

SEMIAH

L’artiste mohawk multidisciplinaire Semiah crée des hymnes dark-pop imprégnés de synthétiseurs pour les nuits de folie, ainsi que des chansons-confessions poignantes pour le lendemain matin. Son style vocal alpin distinctif, son écriture cinématographique et ses performances chargées d’émotion brillent d’influences haudenosaunee. Comme l’écrit Under the Radar (R.-U.) : “Semiah est une artiste fascinante qui transcende les genres; nous lui prédisons un avenir prometteur.” C’est la vulnérabilité de Charli XCX, l’intensité mélancolique des ballades de Lady Gaga et l’esprit novateur de SZA réunis en une seule voix.

Multidisciplinary Mohawk artist Semiah creates synth-laced dark-pop anthems for reckless nights out and confessional torch songs for the morning after. Her distinctive alpine vocal style, cinematic lyricism, and emotionally charged performances shimmer with Haudenosaunee influences. As Under the Radar (UK) writes, “Semiah is a fascinating performer who transcends genres; we’re predicting big things ahead.” It’s the vulnerability of Charli XCX, the melancholic intensity of Lady Gaga, and the genre-bending spirit of SZA.

POP Montréal 2026 : Automatic et Accessory au Bar Le Ritz PDB

Automatic

Automatic crée une pop singulière et audacieuse qui secoue la torpeur ambiante. Alliant irrévérence et commentaires incisifs, le groupe de Los Angeles a abordé son troisième album avec un humour noir et une énergie renouvelée. Izzy Glaudini (synthétiseurs, chant) et Halle Saxon (basse, chant) sont convaincues que les messages appelant au changement passent mieux lorsqu’ils s’appuient sur un rythme entraînant et un groove espiègle ; avec leur nouvel album Is It Now?, elles nous invitent à affronter les structures oppressives du monde avec une urgence nouvelle. Pour Is It Now?, Automatic a collaboré avec le producteur Loren Humphrey (Cameron Winter, Nice As Fuck, Arctic Monkeys), en s’appuyant sur la sonorité minimaliste et dansante de Signal et Excess. Alors que leurs précédents disques reposaient davantage sur une structure rigide, cet album a été conçu dans la spontanéité du jeu en direct, privilégiant les prises longues et une section rythmique qui respire. Balancing irreverence with sharp commentary, the L.A. band approached their third album with a dark sense of humor and a renewed sense of momentum. Izzy Glaudini (synths, vocals) and Halle Saxon (bass, vocals) believe messages of change land best with a backbeat and a cheeky groove – and on their new album Is It Now?, they ask us to confront the world’s oppressive structures with fresh urgency. For Is It Now?, Automatic collaborated with producer Loren Humphrey (Cameron Winter, Nice As Fuck, Arctic Monkeys), building on the minimalist, danceable sound of Signal and Excess. Where earlier records leaned more grid-based, this album was made live and loose – favoring long takes and a rhythm section that breathes. Perky grooves and affable pop melodies act as a Trojan horse for playful political commentary; it may take a few listens to realize that the pulsing bassline, stabbing synths, and sci-fi FX of ‘mq9’ are meant to echo the sound of drone bombs.

Accessory

Accessory est le projet solo de Jason Balla (membre de Dehd), basé à Chicago. Son premier album, DUST, révèle Balla comme une nouvelle voix de la pop expérimentale. Il façonne une œuvre intime mêlant larsens de guitare, manipulations électroniques et poésie du quotidien, à la frontière entre le numérique et l’organique. Ses morceaux forment une constellation évoquant les connexions manquées, le désir et la quête de certitudes au sein d’une réalité dominée par la distraction et le défaitisme. À une époque où prévaut le vernis lisse de l’IA, Balla s’inscrit dans la tradition dadaïste du hasard pour intégrer l’imperfection et l’imprévisibilité humaines à sa création. Le résultat ? Des chansons vivantes et vibrantes, marquées par les traces du processus de création et sculptées par des courants émotionnels sous-jacents, invisibles sous une surface calme.

Accessory is the Chicago-based solo project of Jason Balla (mem. of Dehd). Their debut album— DUST— confirms Balla as a new voice in experimental pop. He crafts an intimate sculpture of guitar feedback, electronic manipulation and everyday poetry, straddling the line between the digital and the organic. The songs are a constellation of misconnection, desire and the search for certainty in a reality dominated by distraction and defeatism. At a time trending toward AI gloss, Balla employs the dadaist tradition of random chance to incorporate human imperfection and unpredictability into his work. The result? Songs that live and breathe, marked with the fingerprints of process and shaped by emotional undercurrents that flow beneath a calm surface.

Née dans une famille de la royauté musicale, fille des légendes du folk Kate McGarrigle et Loudon Wainwright III et sœur du chanteur acclamé et insaisissable Rufus Wainwright, Martha a grandi dans un monde peuplé de légendes musicales incomparables telles qu’Anna McGarrigle, Leonard Cohen, Suzzy Roche, Richard et Linda Thompson, Emmylou Harris, et a dû se battre pour trouver sa propre voix dans un milieu où chaque drame se réfractait à travers la chanson. POP Montréal 2026 : Lucrecia Dalt, Masahiro Takahashi & Marc-Antoine Barbier et Perma au Ministère

Lucrecia Dalt

Née à Pereira, en Colombie, Lucrecia Dalt s’est taillé une place unique dans la musique contemporaine. Son parcours d’ingénieure civile à artiste sonore débute alors qu’elle travaille dans une entreprise géotechnique à Medellín, où elle découvre la production musicale assistée par ordinateur — une révélation qui redirige entièrement sa vie et sa pratique artistique. Après ses premiers enregistrements publiés par le collectif colombien Series, Dalt participe à la compilation 4 Women No Cry de Monika Enterprise en 2008, marquant son entrée sur la scène musicale internationale. Après des déménagements de Medellín à Barcelone puis Berlin, son univers sonore évolue vers des territoires de plus en plus abstraits.

Born in Pereira, Colombia, Lucrecia Dalt has carved out a distinctive space in contemporary music. Her trajectory from civil engineer to sound artist began while working at a geotechnical company in Medellín, where she discovered computer-based music production—a revelation that completely redirected her life and creative focus. After her first recordings appeared through Colombian collective Series, Dalt contributed to Monika Enterprise’s 4 Women No Cry compilation in 2008, marking her entrance into the international music scene. Following moves from Medellín to Barcelona and finally to Berlin, her sound evolved through increasingly abstract territories.

Masahiro Takahashi & Marc-Antoine Barbier

Masahiro Takahashi (Toronto) et Marc-Antoine Barbier (Montréal) sont des compositeurs et musiciens qui se rencontrent pour une première performance en collaboration. Ils interpréteront chacun les pièces de l’autre, réunissant abstraction électronique, ambient et texture fourth-world à travers synthétiseurs, guitare, basse, saxophone et synthèse modulaire.

Masahiro Takahashi (Toronto) and Marc-Antoine Barbier (Montreal) are composers and musicians meeting for their first collaborative performance. They will perform each other’s pieces, bringing together electronic abstraction, ambient and fourth-world texture across synthesizers, guitar, bass, saxophone, and modular synthesis.

Perma

Perma est un duo dreampop shoegaze composé de Carolane Prévost (chant, basse) et Joël Lemieux (guitare, drum machines). Ami-es de longue date, ce qui les a amené à collaborer est leur amour pour la méthode DYI et la scène de musique locale. Vrombissements sonores, textures éthéréelles, Perma est situé entre le sommeil et l’éveil.

Perma is a dreampop shoegaze duo consisting of Carolane Prévost (vocals, bass) and Joël Lemieux (guitar, drum machines). Long ago, they became friends because of their love for the DYI aproach and the local music scene. Sonic rumblings, ethereal textures, Perma floats between deep slumber and wakefulness.

POP Montréal 2026 : Plants and Animals et Sasha Cay au Divan Orange

Plants and Animals

Plants and Animals a vu le jour au début des années 2000 comme un groupe d’improvisation atypique, avant de devenir rapidement l’un des fers de lance de la renaissance de la scène musicale montréalaise de l’époque. Le groupe a enchaîné les concerts à travers le monde, les premières parties d’artistes de renom et les nominations à des prix prestigieux, forts de cinq albums et d’un spectacle live réputé pour sa puissance et son élégance. Il y a quelques années, tout s’est arrêté net, même si les trois membres ont continué leurs activités, notamment à travers des projets comme Bibi Club et Unessential Oils. Eh bien, les voilà de retour, et avec eux, le mythique Divan Orange, la salle de concert où, comme tant d’autres groupes de cette époque, ils ont fait leurs premières armes. Cette grande dame, qui a connu son heure de gloire et est aujourd’hui une friperie, va redevenir le légendaire Divan Orange avec le légendaire Plants and Animals en live ! Vous plaisantez ? J’en suis !

Plants and Animals began in the early ’00s as a weird improvisational band and quickly evolved into one of the era’s Montreal music scene renaissance flag bearers, headlining all over the world and opening for big acts and getting nominated for prestigious awards on the wings of five full-length records and a live show reputed for its ferocity and grace. At some point a few years back it all just kind of stopped—though all three members have carried on, most notably via ongoing projects like Bibi Club and Unessential Oils. Well they’re rising again, and with them, the legendary Divan Orange, the music venue where they, like so many bands of the era, cut their teeth. The grand old lady that ran its course and is now a friperie but is going to be the legendary Divan Orange again with the legendary Plants and Animals playing in it, are you kidding, sign me up.

Sasha Cay

Avec son art-rock curieux et ses concerts déchaînés, Sasha Cay cultive un univers où s’entrechoquent la clarté émotionnelle et le mystère — sincère mais abstrait, nostalgique mais insaisissable, quelque part entre les groupes de guitares les plus bruyants de Montréal et les marginaux du folk occulte.

With their inquisitive art-rock and raucous live show, the band Sasha Cay stirs a contradictory feeling of emotional clarity and mystery in their world— honest but abstracted, nostalgic but unpinnable, paying tribute to both the loud-as-hell guitar bands and occult folk freaks of their hometown Montreal.

Haha Laughing

haha Laughing est un projet de rap noise expérimental basé à Austin, composé de Jay Dilick et Aby Oviedo. Le duo fusionne des éléments de rap hardcore, de free-jazz, de musique électronique déformée et d’énergie punk pour créer des explosions de catharsis accrocheuses d’une durée de trois minutes. Le chaos qu’ils orchestrent prend toute sa dimension lors de leurs concerts : les échanges vocaux entre Dilick et Oviedo, les ruptures noise, les détournements d’échantillons et leur sens du jeu donnent naissance à une performance scénique incontournable, à la fois énergisante et délicieusement désorientante. haha Laughing a sorti plusieurs EP et singles depuis 2021, et a sorti son premier album, « LOSING TEETH DREAM », en mai 2025. Frown line

frown line est le projet indie rock d’Annika Devlin, originaire de Montréal. En 2021, alors qu’elle vivait encore dans sa ville natale d’Ottawa, en Ontario, Annika a commencé à sortir des titres sous le nom de « frown line ». En 2023, après avoir signé avec le label Lauren Records, basé à Los Angeles, frown line a sorti son premier EP, « Come Around », et s’est constitué une solide base de fans sur diverses plateformes de streaming. En 2025, le groupe composé de quatre membres a sorti trois singles et s’est rendu à Los Angeles pour se produire au festival local « Growing Up Is Dumb », organisé de manière indépendante, avant d’enchaîner avec une tournée sur la côte est du Canada cet été-là. En 2026, frown line prévoit de partir en tournée aux États-Unis et au Canada, ainsi que d’enregistrer son premier album.

frown line is the indie rock project of Montreal-based Annika Devlin. In 2021, while still living in her hometown of Ottawa, Ontario, Annika began releasing music under the name ‘frown line’. In 2023, after signing with LA-based label Lauren Records, frown line released their debut EP ‘Come Around’ and gained a comfortable following on various streaming platforms. In 2025, the four-piece band released 3 singles and travelled to LA to play the local DIY festival ‘Growing Up Is Dumb’, followed by an east-coast Canada tour that summer. In 2026, frown line plans on touring in the US and Canada, as well as recording their first album.

Sofia Wolfson

Sofia Wolfson est une musicienne et écrivaine originaire de Los Angeles, désormais installée à Brooklyn. Son album de 2024, Imposing on a Hometown, coproduit par Gabe Wax (Zach Bryan, Soccer Mommy), lui a valu de figurer dans les listes de fin d’année de Cosmopolitan, The Line of Best Fit et New Commute. Cet album comprend des collaborations avec Hand Habits, The Milk Carton Kids et Harrison Whitford. En 2025, elle a obtenu son MFA en écriture créative à la New School et ses nouvelles ont été publiées dans Oyez Review, Superstition Review, Open Ceilings, Flash Fiction Magazine et Westwind. Sofia Wolfson is a musician and writer from Los Angeles, now based in Brooklyn. Her 2024 record Imposing on a Hometown, produced in-part by Gabe Wax (Zach Bryan, Soccer Mommy), landed her on year-end lists in Cosmopolitan, The Line of Best Fit, and New Commute, a record with contributions from Hand Habits, The Milk Carton Kids, and Harrison Whitford. In 2025, she received her MFA in creative writing from the New School and her fiction has appeared in the Oyez Review, Superstition Review, Open Ceilings, Flash Fiction Magazine, and Westwind. Her music combines the indie-folk-rock sonic influences of her LA upbringing with allusions to literature and fine art (her latest record being an ekphrastic response to Edward Hopper’s “Soir Bleu”). For the last decade, she has toured the US and UK, opening for artists and heroes such as Laura Veirs, Frances Quinlan, Kath Bloom, Fenne Lily, Katy Kirby, and more.

Dale Watson & His Lone Stars

Dale Watson est un musicien et producteur country authentique récompensé à plusieurs reprises, actif sur scène depuis plus de 40 ans. Il a partagé la scène avec des légendes comme Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson et Kris Kristofferson. Avec plus de trente albums et singles à son actif, Dale Watson perpétue l’esprit des racines de la musique country à travers le monde. Il est également propriétaire du Wat-sun Studio à Memphis, équipé de la célèbre console de Sun Studio datant de 1937.

Dale Watson is an award-winning hardest working real country musician and producer who has been creating music and performing live for over 40 years. He has shared the stage with such icons as Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson, just to name a few. He has been seen on David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, and Austin City Limits, but most of the time, he is touring the world, killing it for his fans, keeping the country music roots sound alive. With over 30 albums and singles, Dale knows his way around the recording studio, which is why he built Wat-sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, complete with the 1937 board from Sun Studio.

Ben Vallee

L’auteur-compositeur-interprète et guitariste de pédale-steel Ben Vallee fait partie de la scène underground pittoresque de la musique roots montréalaise depuis près d’une décennie. Palomine

Palomine est un groupe montréalais dont la musique marie l’éthique indie rock aux atmosphères tentaculaires du post-rock. Ce groupe de six musiciens en voie de devenir un collectif (formé de Jiwon Yun, Alex Leitman, Lex Bowden, Julia Gribinski, Zach Johnson et, plus récemment, Aija Tso) a commencé comme un duo. Comme l’amitié et le lien avec les autres demeurent un moteur créatif central dans l’écriture de leur musique, de nouvelles amitiés sont vite devenues, au fil du temps, de nouveaux membres. Avant même de s’en rendre compte, leur formation live, en expansion constante, comptait trois guitares, un banjo, un violoncelle et des magnétophones. Avec un éventail de timbres aussi varié à leur disposition, et autant inspirés par la musique folk que par le shoegaze, ils parviennent à créer un mélange unique de paysages sonores réverbérés et d’arrangements de chambre. Palomine s’apprête à lancer son premier album, enregistré avec Nick Bendzsa au Studio Toute Garnie, cet automne.

Palomine is a Montreal band whose music blends indie rock ethos with the sprawling atmospheres of post-rock. The six-piece band-soon-to-be-collective (comprised of Jiwon Yun, Alex Leitman, Lex Bowden, Julia Gribinski, Zach Johnson, and recently Aija Tso) began as a duo, but as friendships and connection with others remain a main creative factor in writing their music, over time, new friendships quickly became new members. Before they knew it, their ever expanding live lineup included three guitars, banjo, cello, and tape machines. With such a varied roster of timbres to draw from, and being as inspired by folk music as they are by shoegaze, they are able to achieve a unique blend of reverberated soundscapes and chamber arrangements. Palomine is set to release their debut album, recorded with Nick Bendzsa at Studio Toute Garnie, this fall.
