La boîte à outils de Pythagore à l’Espace Orange

À la suite du succès de la première saison passée, l’intrépide marionnette des temps modernes est de retour, explorant de nouvelles expériences toujours aussi amusantes et surréalistes et interagissant avec la musique par une écoute attentive, une danse maladroite et une manipulation ludique du son.

La légende raconte qu’en passant devant une forge, Pythagore fut étonné par le large panel de sons aigus qu’il a entendus alors que les forgerons utilisaient des marteaux de différentes tailles pour frapper leurs morceaux de métal. Les sonorités étaient riches, variées, tantôt harmonieuses, tantôt discordantes. Une fois notre cher penseur grec rentré chez lui, il a aussitôt commencé à expérimenter une pléthore de différents marteaux et métaux. Au fil du temps, il y a alors décelé puis identifié des intervalles musicaux et quelques rapports que produisait l’harmonie. Ces explorations du son, ainsi que son développement de nouveaux instruments, ont été pour lui un déclencheur, développant ainsi le principe d’un ordre sous-jacent dans le monde naturel – ce que nous appelons maintenant la physique.

Dans la boîte à outils de Pythagore, au moyen de marionnettes et de musique live, Rachel Warr et Benjamin Olivier donnent vie à un Pythagore des temps moderne, explorant le son, l’espace (conceptuel/sonore/monde réel), le rythme, les harmonies et dissonances (ordre et chaos), la fabrication et la conception d’instruments, des textures et structures musicales variées, et même la danse. Destinée aux enfants de 3 à 12 ans, mais aussi ouverte aux adultes, La boîte à outils de Pythagore entraînera le public dans un dialogue menant à la compréhension des phénomènes sonores. La production met en vedette les musiciens de Paramirabo (Québec), le compositeur Benjamin Oliver et la metteuse en scène Rachel Warr (Royaume-Uni) et deux marionnettistes qui manipulent un tout nouveau Pythagore.

Following on from the success of last season’s debut, the intrepid modern-day puppet is back, exploring new experiences as fun and surreal as ever, interacting with the music through attentive listening, awkward dancing and playful manipulation of sound.

Legend has it that, passing a forge, Pythagoras was astonished by the wide range of high-pitched sounds he heard as the blacksmiths used hammers of various sizes to strike their pieces of metal. The sounds were rich, varied, sometimes harmonious, sometimes discordant. Once our beloved Greek thinker returned home, he immediately began experimenting with a plethora of different hammers and metals. Over time, he detected and then identified musical intervals and some of the relationships produced by harmony. These explorations of sound, as well as his development of new instruments, were a trigger for him to develop the principle of an underlying order in the natural world – what we now call physics.

In Pythagoras’ Toolbox, using puppets and live music, Rachel Warr and Benjamin Olivier bring to life a modern-day Pythagoras, exploring sound, space (conceptual/sound/real world), rhythm, harmonies and dissonances (order and chaos), instrument making and design, varied musical textures and structures, and even dance. Aimed at children aged 3 to 12, but also open to adults, Pythagoras’ Toolbox will engage the audience in a dialogue leading to an understanding of sound phenomena.The production features musicians from Paramirabo (Quebec), composer Benjamin Oliver and director Rachel Warr (UK), and two puppeteers manipulating a brand-new Pythagoras.

Phoque OFF: Vendou, Easy Tiger, Reno McCarthy et LEXIL au Pantoum

Récipiendaire du Meilleur EP Hip-Hop (GAMIQ) et d’une Bourse Telus en 2020, le demi-finaliste des Francouvertes rend justice à l’attention qu’on lui porte avec la sortie remarquée de son premier album MILLÉNIUM (2021, L’Ours – Label). Acclamé par le public et la critique, cumulant plus d’un million d’écoutes à ce jour et fort d’une nomination pour le prix Félix Leclerc de la chanson et d’une mention comme Meilleur album Hip-Hop (GAMIQ), Vendou est propulsé à l’avant plan de la scène musicale émergente. Loin de s’arrêter là, il met sur pied au printemps 2021 une première tournée de spectacle lui permettant de présenter son univers aux quatre coins du Québec, en passant par la Belgique et le Nouveau-Brunswick.

Gonflé à bloc par la découverte de ces nouveaux horizons, c’est le vent dans les voiles qu’il prépare la suite. Winner of Best Hip-Hop EP (GAMIQ) and a Telus Bursary in 2020, the Francouvertes semi-finalist is doing justice to the attention he’s been getting with the remarkable release of his debut album MILLÉNIUM (2021, L’Ours – Label). Acclaimed by audiences and critics alike, garnering over a million listens to date, and boasting a nomination for the Félix Leclerc de la chanson award and a mention as Best Hip-Hop Album (GAMIQ), Vendou is propelled to the forefront of the emerging music scene. After the necessary farewells, new spaces, DIY signings and glasses of wine, Gabrielle La Rue (Guidestones, ex-NOBRO) and Sarah Dion (Les Shirley, NOBRO) unveil their Easy Tiger duo via the single « Ibiza ». Both lo-fi and vectorial, Easy Tiger incorporates power pop, indie rock, ’80s pop and country-rock influences to evoke « the soundtrack of a tiki bar full of cowboys drinking margaritas ». The duo released their debut EP Breakfast In Bed on May 6, 2022.

Reno McCarthy est né à Cambridge, en Angleterre. La musique anglophone ayant bercé son enfance, c’est en anglais qu’il a commencé à s’exprimer artistiquement. Au cours des cinq dernières années, il a fait paraître deux albums, deux EP et plusieurs simples qui ont été très bien reçus par le public, la critique et ses pairs. C’est d’ailleurs en s’impliquant dans plusieurs projets de la scène montréalaise (Olivia Khoury, Bayta, Jeanne Côté) qu’il a véritablement découvert la musique québécoise francophone.

L’été dernier, lors d’un retour aux sources au Royaume-Uni, Reno a écrit ses premiers textes en français afin de célébrer son héritage culturel double.

Cet hiver, suite à sa participation à la 27e édition des Francouvertes, Reno McCarthy a officiellement mis le cap sur la production de son troisième long-jeu, un premier en français.

Reno McCarthy was born in Cambridge, England. He grew up listening to English-language music, and it was in English that he began to express himself artistically. Over the past five years, he has released two albums, two EPs and several singles, all of which have been very well received by audiences, critics and peers alike. It was through his involvement with several projects on the Montreal scene (Olivia Khoury, Bayta, Jeanne Côté) that he truly discovered French-language Quebec music.

Last summer, during a return to his roots in the UK, Reno wrote his first French lyrics to celebrate his dual cultural heritage.

This winter, following his participation in the 27th edition of the Francouvertes, Reno McCarthy

officially set out to produce his third full-length, his first in French.

Sara Dufour au MTELUS

Une puissante bougie d’allumage! Voilà un qualificatif qui décrit parfaitement Sara Dufour. La brillante auteure-compositrice originaire de Dolbeau Mistassini a déjà un EP et 3 albums à son actif. Depuis la sortie de son album éponyme en 2019, elle parcourt le Québec et la France et empile les honneurs (Nomination à L’ADISQ et au GAMIQ, lauréate de la chanson de l’année SOCAN, du prix André ‘Dédé’ Fortin de la SPACQ et du prix Musique Country de la SOCAN). Elle a joué plus de 400 spectacles devant un public conquis et grandissant, incluant une performance sur les plaines d’Abraham lors d’une soirée historique avec Les Cowboys Fringants pendant le Festival d’été de Québec en 2023.  

En spectacle, on fait la rencontre de quelqu’un d’authentique qui nous donne envie de s’évader le temps d’une escapade ou du moins, le goût de respirer la liberté pour un moment. Au volant de sa guitare, elle continue de «taper sa trail» avec son folk’n’roll. Elle vous raconte des «bouttes» d’histoires à vapeur d’essence et vous entraîne dans ses aventures parsemées d’humour et de spontanéité, bien ancrées dans ses racines. 

A powerful spark plug! That’s the perfect way to describe Sara Dufour. The brilliant singer-songwriter from Dolbeau Mistassini already has an EP and 3 albums to her credit. Since the release of her eponymous album in 2019, she has been touring Quebec and France, piling up the honors (ADISQ and GAMIQ nominations, SOCAN Song of the Year, SPACQ André ‘Dédé’ Fortin Award and SOCAN Country Music Award). She has played over 400 shows to a growing and enthusiastic audience, including a performance on the Plains of Abraham during a historic evening with Les Cowboys Fringants at the Festival d’été de Québec in 2023.  

At her shows, she’s an authentic person who makes you want to escape for a while, or at least breathe in freedom for a while. At the wheel of her guitar, she continues to « tap her trail » with her folk’n’roll. Lil Tecca au MTELUS

Après s’être lancé dans le rap à l’âge de neuf ans et avoir échangé des insultes freestyle avec ses amis en jouant à la Xbox, le rappeur du Queens Lil Tecca a développé un flow Auto-Tuned qui s’est tourné vers Chief Keef comme influence principale. Il a publié quelques titres en ligne en 2018 et a percé auprès d’un public plus large avec « Did It Again » et le single phare « Ransom », qui figure également sur sa mixtape 2019 We Love You Tecca. Cette mixtape, son premier album studio en 2020, Virgo World, et sa suite en 2021, We Love You Tecca 2, sont tous entrés dans le Top 10 du Billboard. Le troisième album studio de Tecca, Tec, est arrivé en 2023 et a également bien figuré dans les classements.

After getting into rap at age nine and trading freestyle insults with friends while playing Xbox, Queens rapper Lil Tecca developed an Auto-Tuned flow that looked to Chief Keef as a primary influence. He released a few tracks online in 2018 and broke through to a wider audience with « Did It Again » and the standout charting single « Ransom, » which also appeared on his 2019 mixtape We Love You Tecca. Phoque OFF: Jeanne Côté et Étienne Dufresne au Pantoum

Jeanne Côté est originaire de Petite-Vallée, en Gaspésie, et ça ne la lâche pas: issue d’une famille de musicien.ne.s, elle est obsédée par les liens humains, les fenêtres et le fleuve qui l’accompagnent partout. Après avoir lancé le EP Aller-retour (2019), réalisé par Louis-Jean Cormier, l’auteure-compositrice-interprète dévoile son premier album complet, Suite pour personne, paru en janvier dernier et réalisé par Émilie Proulx et Arthur Bourdon-Durocher. Au printemps, l’artiste participe à la 27e édition des Francouvertes, et se voit remporter la première place de ce concours-vitrine.

Enracinée au piano, elle propose un univers pop-folk-alternatif où la voix et les textes sont mis en valeur. À travers des chansons lumineuses et immersives, elle explore les états de la solitude, les joies et les repères éparpillés de la vingtaine. Jeanne Côté porte une force tranquille, influencée par les femmes qui l’ont toujours inspirée, de Marie-Jo Thério à Kate Bush en passant par sa grand-mère Denise.

Jeanne Côté hails from Petite-Vallée, on the Gaspé Peninsula, and it’s not letting her go: born into a family of musicians, she’s obsessed with the human connections, windows and river that accompany her everywhere. After releasing the Aller-retour EP (2019), produced by Louis-Jean Cormier, the singer-songwriter unveils her first full-length album, Suite pour personne, released last January and produced by Émilie Proulx and Arthur Bourdon-Durocher. In the spring, the artist took part in the 27th edition of the Francouvertes, winning first place in this showcase competition.

Rooted in the piano, she offers a pop-folk-alternative universe in which voice and lyrics take center stage. Through luminous, immersive songs, she explores the loneliness, joys and scattered landmarks of the twenties. Jeanne Côté carries a quiet strength, influenced by the women who have always inspired her, from Marie-Jo Thério to Kate Bush to her grandmother Denise.

Après un premier EP intitulé Sainte-Colère en 2020, Etienne Dufresne sort son premier album Excalibur en 2021 pour lequel il se voit nommé pour le prix de la chanson Félix-Leclerc et comme Révélation de l’année aux GAMIQ.

Il rejoint la cohorte 2022 des Chansonneurs de Petite-Vallée en plus de faire une première apparition marquée au MTELUS en première partie de l’artiste français Eddy de Pretto.

Etienne partage en 2022 JE RESPIRE; un morceau de pop accrocheur et décomplexé présenté avec Ariane Roy. Il rencontre à cette occasion le réalisateur Alexandre Martel avec qui il entame la co-réalisation d’un nouvel album à paraître au début 2024.

After a debut EP entitled Sainte-Colère in 2020, Etienne Dufresne released his debut album Excalibur in 2021, for which he was nominated for the Prix de la chanson Félix-Leclerc and as Revelation of the Year at the GAMIQ.

He joins the 2022 Chansonneurs de Petite-Vallée cohort, and makes his first major appearance at MTELUS, opening for French artist Eddy de Pretto.

C’est à travers l’écriture de chansons que l’artiste, ayant grandi dans l’isolement social, a trouvé du réconfort et une manière de rendre hommage à la musique qui donne un sens à sa vie.

Avec deux projets déjà sortis, THEHONESTGUY a su captiver un public de partout. Son projet le plus récent, intitulé « HOW TO MAKE LOVE », a été le plus monumental de sa carrière, lui valant une NOMINATION AUX JUNO AWARDS dans la catégorie R&B traditionnel en 2023.
