La chanteuse, auteure-compositrice et pianiste québécoise Béatrice Martin, connue sous le nom de Cœur de Pirate, crée une pop aux sonorités cinématographiques. Elle se fait connaître en Europe francophone grâce au succès de son premier album éponyme en 2008, porté par le titre Comme des Enfants. En 2010, son duo avec Julien Doré, Pour un Infidèle, atteint la première place des classements en France. Elle enchaîne ensuite avec une série d’albums à succès, qui rencontrent également un large public au Canada, notamment Roses en 2015, son premier album alternant chansons en français et en anglais.

Québécoise singer/songwriter and pianist Béatrice Martin makes cinematic French pop as Cœur de Pirate. She became a star in French-speaking Europe with the success of her 2008 self-titled debut, which featured the hit single « Comme des Enfants. » Her 2010 duet with Julien Doré, « Pour un Infidèle, » went all the way to number one in France. That was followed by a string of hit albums that also did well in Canada, including 2015’s Roses, her first to be split between French- and English-language tracks.

Nectar Palace

Nectar Palace, alias créatif de Shaun Pouliot, dévoile son premier single Au Palace. Influencé par ses multiples collaborations avec Super Plage, Félix Dyotte, Le Couleur, Radiant Baby, Ormiston, Meggie Lennon et Jordann, l’artiste fusionne des influences électro, indie et punk-disco dans son propre univers sonore tranchant, saturé de textures percutantes et de rythmes accrocheurs.

Apacalda

APACALDA est l’artiste et auteure-compositrice montréalaise Cassandra Angheluta. La création musicale est un moyen de transformer ses traumatismes émotionnels résiduels par le seul médium qui lui permet de les résoudre. Mélancolique, dreamy et émotionnellement hypnotique, APACALDA crée un monde immersif, une approche rafraîchissante de l’indie alternatif. La sortie de son album ‘There’s a Shadow In My Room and It Isn’t Mine’ est prévue pour 2025.

APACALDA is Montreal artist and songwriter Cassandra Angheluta. Creating music has been a means of alchemising her residual emotional traumas through the one medium that brings any resolve within her. Melancholic, dreamy, and hauntingly emotional, APACALDA creates an immersive world, a refreshed approach to alternative indie. Her full-length album ‘There’s a Shadow In My Room and It Isn’t Mine’ is set for release in 2025.

Avec des sonorités rappelant le métal des débuts, une écriture complexe mais fluide, et des éléments de musique progressive, le groupe propose une version moderne du rock & roll où les décibels sont aussi élevés que les structures composées.

Né en 1960 à Paris, France, et également citoyen américain et canadien, le pianiste et compositeur autodidacte Jean-Michel Pilc s’est produit avec de nombreux géants du jazz: Roy Haynes, Michael Brecker, Dave Liebman, Jean Toussaint, Rick Margitza, Michel Portal, Daniel Humair, Marcus Miller, Kenny Garrett, Lenny White, Chris Potter, John Abercrombie, Mingus Dynasty & Big Band, Lew Soloff, Richard Bona etc. Il a également travaillé avec Harry Belafonte, en tant que directeur musical et pianiste, et a joué en duo avec la légendaire chanteuse d’opéra Jessye Norman.

Born in 1960 in Paris, France, and also a citizen of the United States and Canada, self-taught pianist and composer Jean-Michel Pilc has performed with numerous jazz giants: Roy Haynes, Michael Brecker, Dave Liebman, Jean Toussaint, Rick Margitza, Michel Portal, Daniel Humair, Marcus Miller, Kenny Garrett, Lenny White, Chris Potter, John Abercrombie, Mingus Dynasty & Big Band, Lew Soloff, Richard Bona, and more. Sergey et Lusine Khachatryan, frère et sœur, ont chacun des carrières de soliste de premier plan et se produisent ensemble, en duo. Tous deux mènent une prestigieuse carrière internationale, lui au violon, elle au piano. Nés d’une famille de musiciens et originaires d’Arménie, ils nous font découvrir cette partie du monde, notamment en mettant à l’honneur Arno Babajanian, un compositeur et pianiste d’excellence, qui tout comme eux, est natif de Erevan.
Sergey Khachatryan a remporté le Premier Prix du VIIIe Concours international Jean Sibelius à Helsinki en 2000, devenant ainsi le plus jeune lauréat de l’histoire du concours. Et en 2005, il gagnait le Grand Prix du Concours Reine Elisabeth à Bruxelles.
Lusine Khachatryan, considérée comme une « poète du piano » s’est produite sur les plus grandes scènes internationales en Europe, au Japon et aux Etats-Unis . Elle est lauréate du Concours International de Piano à « Città di Ostra» (Italie 2023).

Sergey and Lusine Khachatryan, brother and sister, each have prominent solo careers and perform together as a duo. Both lead prestigious international careers, with him on the violin and her on the piano. Born into a family of musicians in Armenia, they introduce us to this part of the world, particularly by highlighting Arno Babajanian, an outstanding composer and pianist who, like them, hails from Yerevan.
Sergey Khachatryan won the First Prize at the 8th Jean Sibelius International Competition in Helsinki in 2000, becoming the youngest laureate in the history of the competition. In 2005, he won the Grand Prix at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels.
Lusine Khachatryan, considered a « poet of the piano, » has performed on the world’s greatest stages in Europe, Japan, and the United States. She is the winner of the 2023 International Piano Competition in Città di Ostra (Italy).

VioleTT Pi est un groupe québécois de musique québécoise du genre électro-aimant à courant alternatif, composé d’une personne (Karl), née à Granby (45° 24′ 0.0072″ N, 72° 43′ 59.9880″ O). Le groupe se forme en 2010 alors qu’une collection de beaux cheveux rencontre une soirée dansante qui n’en a jamais assez de Nirvana, Mr. Bungle et Gilles Deleuze. Leur style unique de divertissement fusionne des grooves percutants et une voix d’elfe avec une névrose flashy qui donne envie de penser en mangeant. Au printemps 2023 du futur, le groupe fera paraître un nouvel album. Au printemps 2023 du passé, le groupe a fait paraître Baloney suicide sur étiquette L-A Be – Let Artists be.

VioleTT Pi is a Quebec-born and bred band of one whose genre could roughly be described as A/C electromagnetic rock. The project was created in 2010 by Karl, who hails from Granby (45° 24’ 0.0072” N, 72° 43’ 59.9880” W), when a head of luscious locks danced the night away to the sounds of Nirvana, Mr. Bungle, and Gilles Deleuze. VioleTT Pi’s uniquely entertaining style combines heavy-hitting grooves, an elfin voice, and a flashy form of neurosis that makes you want to think while you eat. In the spring of 2023, the band released Baloney suicide on the L-A be – Let Artists be label.

Prewn

Izzy Hagerup décrit le temps immersif passé en studio comme une expérience « qui a changé sa vie », en grande partie grâce à l’isolement total où « la création était au centre, et je pouvais vraiment être seule, ce qui m’a permis de me découvrir plus prolifique que je ne l’aurais jamais imaginé. » Les résultats sont d’une beauté saisissante et viscéralement triomphants. Ces sessions, ainsi que quelques ajouts enregistrés chez elle (plus tard mixés et masterisés par McMahon), ont donné naissance à Through The Window, le premier album de Prewn, entièrement interprété par Izzy Hagerup, donnant vie à ses chansons avec une touche distinctive. Sorti le 25 août 2023 via Exploding In Sound Records (Pile, Ovlov, Floatie), cet album de compositions solo dégage une immédiateté et une sincérité frappantes. En son cœur, c’est une explosion d’idées et d’émotions brutes. Izzy prépare actuellement le deuxième album de Prewn, prévu pour une sortie sur Exploding In Sound en mars 2025. Restez à l’écoute !

Izzy Hagerup describes the immersive time spent in the studio as “life changing,” in large part due to the pure isolation where “creating was the focus and I could really be alone, leading me to find myself more prolific than I ever thought I could be.” The results are staggeringly beautiful and triumphantly visceral. Those sessions along with some home-recorded additions (later mixed and mastered by McMahon) came to be Through The Window, Prewn’s debut album, performed entirely by Izzy Hagerup, bringing her songs to life with a distinctive touch. Released August 25th, 2023 via Exploding In Sound Records (Pile, Ovlov, Floatie), there’s an immediacy and earnest nature to the solo recordings, at its core it’s an outpouring of unfiltered ideas and emotions. Izzy is readying the 2nd Prewn record for release on Exploding in Sound in March of 2025. Stay tuned!

Le deuxième album de Sam Jr, Inner Shadow, est sorti le 31 mai 2024 via Arts & Crafts (Echodelick Records aux États-Unis, Weird Beard au Royaume-Uni et Worst Bassist Records dans l’UE). Sombre, audacieux et contemplatif, cet album mêle ses tonalités caractéristiques de rock industriel fuzzy à des réflexions mélancoliques sur la vie moderne. Si vous appréciez le sleaze saturé des Stooges, le bruit parfaitement maîtrisé dans la veine de Spacemen 3 ou A Place to Bury Strangers, et l’idée, disons, de T. Rex reprenant certaines faces B obscures de Barbed Wire Kisses ou du Primal Scream de XTRMNTR remontant le temps pour recréer Screamadelica avec bien plus de cynisme… eh bien, vous êtes dans la bonne direction.

Sam Jr’s sophomore album ‘Inner Shadow’ was released on May 31st, 2024 via Arts & Crafts (Echodelick Records in the USA, Weird Beard in the UK and Worst Bassist Records in the EU.) Dark, edgy, and contemplative, this album intersperses his signature fuzzy, industrial rock tones with his melancholic musings on modern living. If you enjoy overdriven Stooges sleaze and expertly deployed noise of the Spacemen 3 / A Place to Bury Strangers variety and the thought of, say, T. Rex covering some of the more obscure B-sides on Barbed Wire Kisses or the Primal Scream who made XTRMNTR going back in time to remake Screamadelica with far more cynicism … well, that’s in the ballpark.

Paige Barlow

C’est au travers d’un nouveau projet solo éponyme que l’auteure-compositrice-interprète Paige Barlow propose un son alliant folk et psychédélique en passant par la pop, le yéyé et le shoegaze. Originaire d’Atlanta, Paige a adopté la langue française et l’a intégrée à sa musique après son arrivée à Montréal, où elle réside toujours aujourd’hui. Son premier EP solo est paru au printemps 2024 sous l’étiquette Duprince.

With her new eponymous solo project, singer-songwriter Paige Barlow offers a sound that combines folk and psychedelia with pop, yéyé and shoegaze. Originally from Atlanta, Paige adopted the French language and integrated it into her music after arriving in Montreal, where she still resides today. Her first solo EP was released in may 2024.

Megan Moroney au MTelus

L’attitude ensoleillée de Megan Moroney cache sa finesse en tant que compositrice, un aspect mis en valeur dans son single à succès de 2022, Tennessee Orange, et son album qui l’accompagne, Lucky. Sur ce premier album de 2023, Moroney mélange les tropes classiques de l’écriture country – aussi à l’aise avec un boogie entraînant qu’avec une narration poignante – avec une sensibilité pop et contemporaine. L’album a été un succès dans le Top 10 des classements country, un exploit qu’elle a surpassé l’année suivante avec son deuxième album, Am I Okay?, qui a atteint la neuvième place du Billboard 200.

Megan Moroney’s sunny demeanor belies her cleverness as a songwriter, an aesthetic showcased on her 2022 breakthrough single « Tennessee Orange » and its accompanying album Lucky. On that 2023 debut, Moroney’s embrace of classic country songwriting tropes — she is at ease with a boot-scooting boogie as she is with plaintive storytelling — intertwined with a pop savviness and a contemporary sensibility. The album was a Top Ten success on the country charts, a feat she bested a year later with her follow-up, Am I Okay?, which reached number nine on the Billboard 200.

Avoir Su, son 15 e album, est sorti fin septembre et a reçu une très belle couverture médiatique (Le Devoir, Le journal de Québec, Le Quotidien). Retour à son folk rock / country d’origine (guitare, banjo, harmonica) avec sa fidèle gang qui inclue maintenant sur scène des musiciens de Sara Dufour (avec qui il tourne). La formule est variable, pouvant aller de 4 à 7 mais on aimerait bien le full band en festivals cet été. Le show est super bien rythmé entre tounes classiques, mix rock de ses deux derniers albums et folk / country. Ça boit de la bière aussi ! D’albums en tournées, de collaborations (Sara Dufour, Laura Sauvage, Francis Faubert) en réalisations, Dany Placard est devenu au fil des ans un incontournable de la scène musicale québécoise.

Avoir Su, his 15th album, was released at the end of September and received great media coverage (Le Devoir, Le Journal de Québec, Le Quotidien). Returning to his folk rock/country roots (guitar, banjo, harmonica) with his loyal crew, which now includes musicians from Sara Dufour’s band (with whom he tours), the lineup is flexible, ranging from 4 to 7 members, but we’d love to see the full band at festivals this summer. The show is well-paced, with a mix of classic tunes, rock tracks from his last two albums, and folk/country songs. Beer is also involved! Toronto indie rock four-piece PACKS redefines mundanity with a cacophony of garage rock, anti-folk, and pop-eccentricism. Led by Madeline Link, the band combines sludgy slacker rock guitars with delicate lyricism to create an authentic sound all their own.

Douance

Douance est une entité musicale s’entourant d’un univers grunge grandement inspiré des années 90 et de sa scène musicale underground. Son style est cru, lo-fi, sans prétention et viscéral. Originaire du Saguenay, Alexandrine Rodrigue oeuvre sur la scène musicale québécoise depuis près de dix ans. Ses pièces évoquent l’amour et l’hésitation tout en étant teintées d’une mélancolie parfois lourde de sens.

Douance is a musical entity with a grunge universe largely inspired by the 90s and its underground music scene. Her style is raw, lo-fi, unpretentious and visceral. A native of the Saguenay region, Alexandrine Rodrigue has been active on the Quebec music scene for nearly ten years. Her songs evoke love and hesitation, yet are tinged with a melancholy that is sometimes heavy with meaning.

Knitting

Ce qui a commencé comme un projet de hibernation pendant la pandémie est désormais le groupe indie-rock montréalaise pleinement développé, knitting. Avec « des guitares sinueuses et entraînantes… et des refrains qui ont le potentiel de se transformer en mélodies accrocheuses » (FME), knitting propose un rock indie porté par la guitare et introspectif sur le plan des paroles, évoquant la nostalgie des groupes de rock alternatif des années 90 comme Pavement, Pixies et Sonic Youth. Formé il y a deux ans, knitting a partagé la scène avec des groupes tels que Nap Eyes, Loving et Cherry Glazerr, et a tourné tout en se produisant lors de festivals à travers l’Amérique du Nord. Après avoir travaillé avec Scott Munro (Preoccupations), leur premier album très attendu est sorti le 6 septembre 2024 sur Mint Records.

What started out as a pandemic hibernation project is now the fully fledged Montreal indie-rock-unit knitting. With “sinuous, bouncy guitars…and choruses that have the potential to metamorphose into earworms” (FME), knitting makes guitar driven and lyrically introspective indie rock evoking the nostalgia of 90s alternative rock bands like Pavement, Pixies and Sonic Youth. Formed two years ago, knitting has shared the stage with the likes of Nap Eyes, Loving and Cherry Glazerr, and toured and performed at festivals across North America. After working with Scott Munro (Preoccupations), knitting’s highly anticipated debut album came out September 6 2024 on Mint Records.

Directement de Montréal, K-Man & the 45s est un important membre de la scène ska depuis plusieurs années. Le mot s’est passé rapidement; en fait, dès que les gars montent sur scène, le public devient fou ! K-Man & the 45s ont partagé la scène avec des groupes tels que The Slackers, The Skatalites, Catch 22, The Brains et beaucoup plus !

K-Man & The 45s, where Ska meets Rock and Roll. With a fantastic horn section playing catchy melodic lines and blazing solos over an energetic rhythm section, they switch naturally from ska to rock and punk, with surf sounds often not far behind. They’ve shared the stage with a million bands including: The Slackers, Big D and The Kids Table, The Satellites, The Original Wailers , The Planet Smashers, The Brains and many more.

The Beatdown

Depuis 2009, ces vétérans de la scène underground montréalaise poussent le vieux son Jamaïcain qu’ils chérissent tant vers de nouveaux sommets en y incorporant entre autres des éléments de soul, de rock n’ roll, et de punk, livré avec cran.
