Influenced by digital culture and electronically designed rhythms, several European trios have been redesigning acoustic jazz in recent years. Phronesis (Ivo Neame, piano, Anton Eger drums, Jasper Høiby, double bass) may be the one that has best united the two aesthetics while remaining deeply jazz, as this very inspired album, recorded before a live audience, ably demonstrates. It should be noted that individual performance is less important than collective sound here. Phronesis habitually carry out compositions that are dense, complex and flexible at the same time, interweaving most expertly for the utmost gratification of jazz enthusiasts.
