A symbol of Judeo-Christian compassion, Mary Magdalene strongly inspired FKA Twigs, who was at one point recovering from a break-up that devastated her morally, mentally and physically. When she regained her strength, the trial was transformed into creative energy, into laments, incantations and ballads, all rather visceral. Magdalene became the emblematic figure of her healing and restoration through the power of sophisticated pop, in which Arca, Oneothrix Point Never, Future, Sounwave and Skrillex participated. The artists’ fleshed-out songs are thus wrapped in original sounds, achieving the perfect balance between catchy pop and cutting-edge digital art.
