Classica X Le Vivier | Opera, Feminism, Winter

Interview by Ariel Rutherford
Genres and styles : Contemporary Opera

Additional Information

As part of Classica and the Vivier season, the Opéra Magnolia company (formerly known as OperaM3F) presents L’hiver attend beaucoup de moi, a work that has continued to evolve since its initial commission in 2018; a second, extended version for the Opéra de Montréal in 2020, and a third reworking for six instruments, presented in Berlin in 2022. This latest version will be presented at the Classica festival, in collaboration with Le Vivier. Led by maestra Mélanie Léonard, six performers from the Paramirabo ensemble and the singers of Opéra Magnolia will perform in a production directed by Nathalie Deschamps

Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 3 p.m., Studio-Théâtre des Grands Ballets, Wilder Building, Espace Danse, 1435 De Bleury Street, Montreal.
“Winter Demands Much of Me explores life in the landscapes of northern Quebec, which are as magnificent as they are cruel. As a storm approaches, Léa, who is pregnant, tries to reach a safe haven. She is guided there by Madeleine, a mysterious stranger. This opera evokes the strength and solidarity of women in the face of unspeakable grief and tragedy.”
