Hot Garbage, the lovable psych rockers from the 6ix, have dropped a new song and music video called “SPUN,” featuring Sook Yin-Lee as “The Bug,” dressed as a DIY gothic insectoid while she parades around the scratchy and noise-filled town. Musically, this is the noisiest and punkiest we’ve heard from Hot Garbage in a long while; fuzzed-out bass riffs to the nines, pummeling drums, scorching guitars, and vocals rambling about the “fourth dimension.” Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck) is mixing, and though he has worked in Hot Garbage stuff before, his noise rock influence is really felt here.
More on the video, because I love it, Sook Yin-Lee seems to be in her Bjork-era as “The Bug,” shrinking down to big size and popping in and out of foliage and city nightmare backdrops. There are sped up moments when her movement imitates an actual bug, and some where it feels like she is a person dressed as a bug. And what do most people do with bugs? Watch and find out. It’s very surreal and makes total sense with the context of the music. Director Dylan Gamble killed it.
