Vocal and romantic jazz in the great tradition of the genre. Haunted Melody evokes with suavity the ghosts of great singers like Cole, Crosby, Tormé, etc, but with an identifiable personal touch. The Canadian native, recently returned to the country, visits with accuracy, and especially a light tenor voice that is pleasant in the high notes and capable of beautiful low tones, seductive titles from the Great American Songbook, Brazilian bossa and a bit of French song. With the support of a string orchestra and solid Canadian jazz instrumentalists (Bill McBirnie, Joel Frahm, Reg Schwager, Michael Occhipinti and several others), he offers warm readings of titles such as Lost in a Summer Night (Previn), No One After You (Cohen), La chanson des vieux amants (in English – Brel), Esquecendo você (Jobim), Saudade de amar (Caymmi).
It doesn’t invent anything at all, but it’s easy to listen to like a generous wine by the fire in the hearth. With some developments south of the border, let’s celebrate the return home of a children of the country.
