Montrealer Rebecca Foon is known for her composition efforts (…) with Saltland and Esmerine, not to mention her previous collaborations with Thee Silver Mt. Zion. Composer, lyricist, singer, pianist, cellist, she suggests sounds that could be included in the post-rock chamber music category. The piano is the central instrument of this project, to which are attached the cello, violin (Sophie Trudeau), electric guitar, organ, synths, percussion (Jace Lasek, co-producer of this album and owner of Breakglass Studios), acoustic guitar, double bass (Richard Reed Parry), electric bass (Mishka Stein) and vocals (Foon with her colleagues behind her). These 10 tracks have little to do with song form, they’re rather close to contemporary music, post-minimalism, ambient and especially post-rock. Calm, introspective, dreamlike, unctuous, these singular melodic-harmonic constructs are distilled over slow rhythms (“Wide Open Eyes” is the exception), enveloping the sensibilities of those eager to live this experience.
