A beautifully poetic title (that can be translated as Catching the Sky Before it Falls) that aptly expresses the nature of the music heard on this album by chamber folk group Eli et la Tempête. In a period between 2020 and 2024, one life passed away (the mother of leader Éli Doyon and his sister Madeleine, and author of the phrase in question that served as the title), and others appeared (the children of the two artists). A banjo, double bass, percussion and an elegant brass choir accompany Doyon on vocals in a short programme of seven pieces that lull our senses through melancholy without heaviness and brighter, even energetic passages. Eclectic echoes run through this refined EP: local folk, classical music with a cinematic touch, chanson and klezmer.
It’s beautiful, intelligent and touching.
