Part of the first three performances of the Nouvel Opéra Métropolitain, this great French opera tells the story of a Spanish marquise named Miguela who falls in love with a French colonel during the Spanish War of Independence. Against a backdrop of heightened patriotic and religious stakes, our heroine navigates troubled waters as she attempts to reconcile love and duty, betrayal and loyalty, in a story filled with passion, courage and moral dilemmas. At times comic, but definitely romantic, Miguela invites you to discover the great themes of late 19th-century action opera: betrayal, death and the portrayal of strong female characters.
