La carrière de l’auteur de Future Village (Disques Nuits d’Afrique, 2025) est en plein essor. L’afro-futurisme de la Révélation Radio-Canada 2024-2025, s’amusant avec des sonorités roots, french touch, afrobeat, folk, dubstep et afro-pop-rock, convoque les anciens et dessine un avenir habité de leur sagesse. Multi-instrumentiste, il invente un monde où les guitares soukous, les synthés éclatants et un arsenal de percussions s’entrechoquent pour former une électro-congolaise consciente, parfaitement accrocheuse et dansante, qui connecte la mémoire ancestrale, la période d’or de la SAPE et la vision holographique d’un futur à réinventer.
Lately, Kizaba has been going non-stop, with performances at venues around the globe in these last few months alone. The career of the man behind Future Village (Disques Nuits d’Afrique, 2025) is literally booming. Among the Révélation Radio-Canada 2024–2025, the artist embodies Afrofuturism, playing with a variety of styles, including roots, French touch, Afrobeat, folk, dubstep and Afro-pop rock, while he summons the ancestors to chart a future guided by their wisdom. A multi-instrumentalist, he creates a world where soukous guitars, explosive synths and an arsenal of percussion instruments collide to form a socially conscious, perfectly catchy and danceable Congolese electro sound that bridges ancestral memory, the golden age of SAPE and a holographic vision of a future waiting to be reinvented.

Depuis plus de trente ans, guitare en bandoulière, Chris Combette swingue, avec l’intelligence du coeur, les reggae, biguine, calypso, bossa nova et jazz, façonnant une musique d’une rare finesse, attentive aux mots, aux rythmes et aux silences. Cet été à Montréal, il retrouve un public qu’il chérit depuis sa première prestation à Nuits d’Afrique en 2004 pour partager une soirée douce et généreuse, teintée d’humanité, de mémoire et d’espoir à préserver.
He says it himself: when he fine-tunes his songs, he is like “a jeweller in his workshop,” (France Info Guyane, 2026). For over thirty years, with his guitar in tow, Chris Combette has been infusing reggae, biguine, calypso, bossa nova and jazz with a lively energy, crafting a sound of a rare finesse that pays close attention to lyrics, rhythms, and silences. This summer in Montreal, he will reunite with an audience he has cherished since his first Nuits d’Afrique concert in 2004, to share in a tender and generous moment, imbued with humanity, memory and hope. An evening to be treasured.

Leurs voix s’entrelacent comme des mains serrées. Histoire de sororité, Somos Más est né dans l’intimité des cuisines et des salons, là où les personnalités se découvrent et où les liens se tissent. Ce collectif de femmes aux racines multiples — du Québec à l’Amérique latine — chante l’amitié, la résilience et la force du « nous ». Leurs harmonies vocales, enveloppantes et lumineuses, reposent sur des arrangements chaleureux de guitare, ukulélé, basse et percussions. Dans leurs compositions comme dans leurs reprises, Somos Más célèbre la douceur sans jamais renoncer à la puissance. Parce qu’ensemble, elles transforment le « nous » en horizon.
Their voices intertwine like the fingers of clasped hands. A story of sisterhood, Somos Más was born in the intimacy of kitchens and living rooms, where personalities are revealed and bonds are cultivated. This collective made up of women from diverse cultural backgrounds—from Quebec to Latin America—sings of friendship, resilience, and the strength of “us, together.” Their vocal harmonies, warm and luminous, are set against cozy guitar, ukulele, bass and percussion arrangements. In both their original compositions and covers, Somos Más celebrates tenderness without ever sacrificing power. Because together, they transform the “us” into a horizon.

Avec son charisme et son petit côté entertainer, à la manière d’un animateur enthousiaste de radio-crochet, Idriss le Viking Noir était la personne toute indiquée pour accueillir cette série qui applaudit la grande influence, le modernisme et la versatilité des musiques mandingues, que Nuits d’Afrique n’a eu de cesse de mettre de l’avant ces 40 dernières années. Sur des grooves du feu de Dieu, tel un sage un peu frondeur, Idriss, conquérant sympathique et décomplexé, distille ses conseils et conte la vie, de sa voix qui porte et de laquelle pointent des accents reggae.

Lors de cette soirée tout en contrastes, l’exubérance et la musique tout feu tout flamme d’Idriss le Viking Noir se mariront à la voix posée et aux sonorités blues aériennes de Boubé. Guitares et percussions ne sauront plus où donner de la tête !
A born showman with the ebullience of a radio talent show host, the charismatic Idriss le Viking Noir was the obvious choice to host this series, which celebrates the versatility, contemporary appeal and undeniable influence of Mandinka music, which Nuits d’Afrique has proudly promoted for the past 40 years. Set to groovy beats, like a slightly rebellious sage, the charming and fun-loving Idriss shares his wisdom and recounts stories about life in his resonant voice with its subtle reggae inflections.

During this evening full of contrasts, Idriss le Viking Noir’s exuberance and fiery music meets Boubé’s smooth voice and ethereal blues vibe. The guitarist and percussionists won’t know which way to turn!

La rumba flamenca voilée de jazz de ce quintette montréalais offre une immersion toute en sensibilité dans les traditions passionnées de l’Andalousie et de Cuba. Tant les guitares feutrées que le piano habile et les percussions joliment pudiques contribuent à la création de mélodies chargées d’une émotion tangible, inhérente aux vibrations de la copla, du flamenco et du boléro. Et que dire de la voix chaude et brisée de Fernando Gallego « El Bancalero », ainsi que de sa présence scénique, qui invitent à vivre une expérience lyrique à la fois collective et confidentielle? Let yourselves be immersed in the passionate traditions of Andalusia and Cuba with the sensuous jazz-infused flamenco rumba of this Montreal-based quintet. Soft guitars, nimble piano and subdued percussions all contribute to their melodies charged with the raw emotion inherent in the spirit of copla, flamenco and bolero. And then there is the warm husky voice and stage presence of Fernando “El Bancalero” Gallego, that invites the audience on a lyrical journey that is both shared and personal. PABLO JOSE & UN VALLENATO EN L’accordéon épatant de Pablo José fait résonner l’âme du vallenato de la côte caraïbe colombienne. Il rit, soupire, se plaint et célèbre. Il chante la sérénade, amuse, fait danser et ravive les souvenirs. Les caja et guacharaca, qui soutiennent l’accordéon de manière raffinée, exploitent toute la palette des émotions, transformant chaque spectacle en un moment de partage et de chaleur. Il suffit de se laisser emporter par la musique pour soudain se retrouver en voyage, sur un chemin lumineux entre la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta et la Serranía de Perijá.
Pablo José’s accordion embodies the spirit of vallenato music from Colombia’s Caribbean coast. It laughs, it sighs, it laments and it celebrates; it serenades, entertains, gets people dancing and rekindles memories. The caja and guacharaca, which provide a refined accompaniment to the accordion, tap into the full range of emotions, transforming every performance into a moment of connection and warmth. All you need to do is let yourself be carried away by the music to suddenly find yourself on a joyful journey between the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and the Serranía del Perijá.

Se faire affubler d’un surnom au Congo fait partie de l’usage. Lui, on l’appelle « inspecteur », peut-être parce qu’il est fils d’un officier militaire, mais peut-être aussi parce que sa musique scrute les moindres recoins de la rumba congolaise, celle de Tabu Ley Rocheleau ou de Zaïko Langa Langa. L’exubérance de ce chanteur, compositeur et chorégraphe n’a d’égale que la liesse de son public. Sans aucun doute, c’est un vrai, qui est là pour ambiancer !
In the Congo, it’s not unusual to be given a moniker. Guynard Mungu is called “l’inspecteur,” perhaps because he’s the son of a military officer, but maybe it’s also because he scrutinizes every aspect of Congolese rumba, be it that of Tabu Ley Rocheleau or Zaïko Langa Langa. The exuberance of this singer, songwriter and choreographer is matched only by the enthusiasm of his audience. There can be no doubt about it, he’s the real deal, and he’s there to get the crowd moving!
