MUTEK : X/VISIONS 3 à la Maison symphonique

Dans un premier temps, le duo Ah! Kosmos et Hainbach fusionne matériel de laboratoire et synthétiseurs pour créer une odyssée sonore mélancolique, transformant le bruit en textures vivantes et immersives.
Puis, soulignant le 25e anniversaire de l’album Endless Summer, Christian Fennesz s’associe à l’artiste visuel Lillevan pour donner un nouveau souffle à cette œuvre phare qui évoque la mémoire, la fragilité et la résonance émotionnelle des paysages estivaux.

Gentle Hum de Ah! Kosmos et Hainbach dérive dans un temps suspendu, tressant minutieusement sons d’appareils de mesure, synthétiseurs analogiques, accompagnements au piano et voix traitées dans une vaste fresque mélancolique. Pour MUTEK, le duo fait vivre l’album au sein de la Maison symphonique, explorant patiemment textures et timbres avec une attention presque microscopique.
Fennesz & Lillevan — Endless Summer 25th anniversary
Pour les 25 ans de Endless Summer, Fennesz revisite cet album ambient emblématique avec un regard renouvelé, prolongeant ses textures de guitare lumineuses et ses distorsions numériques dans une expérience live immersive. Accompagné de l’artiste visuel Lillevan, la performance se déploie comme un dialogue entre son et image, où les harmonies scintillantes, les mélodies baignées de lumière et les strates complexes de Fennesz entrent en résonance avec les compositions visuelles subtiles et puissantes de Lillevan, esquissant un paysage estival chargé d’émotion.

First, Ah! Kosmos and Hainbach merge laboratory equipment and synthesizers to create a melancholic sonic odyssey, transforming noise into living and immersive textures.
Then, to mark the 25th anniversary of the release of the album Endless Summer, Christian Fennesz teams up with visual artist Lillevan to breathe new life into this landmark work, evoking memory, fragility, and the emotional resonance of summer landscapes.

Fennesz & Lillevan — Endless Summer 25th anniversary
For its 25th year, Fennesz revisits his seminal ambient album Endless Summer with renewed perspective, expanding its luminous guitar textures and digital distortions into a deeply immersive live experience. Joined by visual artist Lillevan, the performance becomes a dialogue between sound and image; Fennesz’s shimmering harmonies, sun-bleached melodies, and intricate layers playing against Lillevan’s subtle yet powerful visual compositions of an emotional summer landscape.

D’un soir à l’autre, la série circule entre écoute attentive, immersion, tension physique et énergie collective, sans se limiter à une seule définition des musiques électroniques.

The festival’s core series, Nocturne unfolds across both floors of the Society for Arts and Technology from Wednesday to Sunday.
The series offers a wide view of contemporary electronic music practice and digital creativity, moving each evening through different atmospheres, formats, and levels of intensity.
From one night to the next, the series shifts between attentive listening, immersion, physical tension, and collective energy, never limiting itself to a single definition of electronic music.

Cleo Leigh — ROMANCE BY DESIGN
Cleo Leigh présente Romance by Design, un live techno hypnotique façonné par la synthèse modulaire et le hardware. Inspirée par les constructions géométriques de l’architecte Mario Botta, sa performance improvisée structure l’émotion en son, explorant l’intimité, la forme et la tension dans une matrice sonore en perpétuelle évolution.
JakoJako
La Berlinoise JakoJako fait sa première canadienne au festival MUTEK. À l’aide de synthétiseurs modulaires, elle génère rythmes et textures en temps réel, superposant lignes de basse acide, polyrythmies fragmentées et arpèges électroniques. L’asymétrie et l’imprévisibilité sont au cœur de sa démarche, alors qu’elle explore des univers ambient et techno tentaculaires à la recherche de sons nouveaux et non conventionnels.
Jeff Mills — Stargate
Habité par une fascination profonde pour la science-fiction, DJ, producteur et artiste, Jeff Mills intègre ses récits et ses esthétiques au cœur de son minimal techno singulier. Pour lui, l’espace est une obsession, et sa musique devient le terrain de projection d’utopies rêvées et d’explorations interstellaires. Issu de la première scène techno de Detroit, son approche novatrice incarne le futur tout en restant ancrée dans le passé et pleinement inscrite dans le présent. Lorsqu’il fonde son propre label Axis en 1992, Mills adopte le principe de rotation du système solaire comme modèle esthétique et conceptuel, concevant un logo formé de quatre triangles orientés vers un centre invisible.
Polygonia
Reconnue pour la précision de ses textures, ses rythmes captivants et ses arrangements électroniques foisonnants, la munichoise Polygonia explore avec finesse les zones de porosité entre techno, bass, breakbeat et house. Dans ses performances live, à la fois cérébrales et immersives, elle traverse un large spectre émotionnel et met à l’épreuve les limites de l’IDM, atteignant une forme de résonance accrue entre artiste et public.

Cleo Leigh — ROMANCE BY DESIGN
Cleo Leigh presents Romance by Design, a hypnotic live techno set shaped by modular synthesis and hardware improvisation. Inspired by architect Mario Botta’s geometric cosntructions, she molds emotion into sound, exploring intimacy, form, and tension through a raw, evolving sonic matrix.
JakoJako
Berlin’s JakoJako makes her Canadian debut at MUTEK Festival. Working with modular synthesizers, she generates rhythm and texture in real time, layering acid basslines, broken polyrhythms, and bleeping arpeggios. Asymmetry and unpredictability take center stage as she hunts for new and unconventional sounds in sprawling ambient and techno realms.
Jeff Mills — Stargate
Deeply inhabited by a love of science-fiction, DJ, producer and artist Jeff Mills adopts its stories and aesthetics into the creative fabric of his divergent minimal techno sound. For him, space is an obsession, and his music sets the stage for dreamed utopias and interstellar ideation to freely sprawl. Arising from Detroit’s early techno scene, his innovative style embodies the future while respecting the past and remaining well into the present. When he founded his own record label Axis in 1992, Mills took the rotating principle of the solar system as aesthetic and core model for his creativity, crafting a logo consisting of four triangles pointing to an invisible center.
Polygonia
Known for precise textures, mesmerizing rhythms, and lush electronic arrangements, Munich’s Polygonia navigates the grey area between techno, bass, breakbeat, and house with depth and intrigue. Fluidly travelling the emotional spectrum in her cerebral live performances, she tests the limits of IDM, reaching a new stratosphere of audience-artist synergy.

Gab Bouchard au MTelus

Commencer tranquille, finir en sueur. Un spectacle continu pour traverser une gamme d’états d’âme et de corps : c’est d’abord calme et envoûtant, ça augmente, de ballades country-folk à brûlots pop-rock, ça n’arrête jamais de s’élever, ça exalte puis ça se termine à terre, en sueur, avec l’ampli au boute et ça se conclut vraiment au bar.
Un spectacle de Gab Bouchard, c’est une douceur qui se traduit en fougue, un accès intime du brut, une mise en costume de dérape, un souffle qui te règle une peine d’amour. Coupe bol bleachée, moustache et guitare devant, il est appuyé en live par un quatuor de musiciens aguerris (Marie-Claudel Chénard, Victor Tremblay-Desrosiers, Pierre-Olivier Gagnon, Mathieu Quenneville). Ça commence tranquille, ça finit en sueur.

Start off easy, end up in a sweat. A continuous show that takes you through a whole range of moods and states: it begins calm and mesmerizing, builds up from country-folk ballads to fiery pop-rock anthems, never stops climbing, then bursts out, and finally collapses to the floor, drenched in sweat, amps cranked to the max, before wrapping up at the bar.
A Gab Bouchard show is tenderness turned into fire, raw intimacy laid bare, chaos dressed up, a breath that soothes a broken heart. Bleached bowl cut, mustache, guitar in hand, he’s backed on stage by a tight quartet of seasoned musicians (Marie-Claudel Chénard, Victor Tremblay-Desrosiers, Pierre-Olivier Gagnon, Mathieu Quenneville). It starts off easy, and ends in sweat.

La série Les profs de l’UdeM en concert propose des rendez-vous de haut niveau vous permettant d’apprécier gratuitement leur maestria et la finesse de leur jeu, dans des œuvres de musique de chambre. Et pour les étudiantes et étudiants qui aspirent poursuivre leurs parcours à la Faculté de musique, ces concerts inspirants sont des occasions privilégiées de voir et d’entendre leur futur prof.

Many performers who shine on Canadian and international stages make up the Faculty of Music’s teaching staff. The Les profs de l’UdeM en concert series offers high-level concerts where audiences can freely enjoy their mastery and the subtlety of their playing in chamber music works. Joe Bocan à la Cinquième Salle – Insoumise

Avec Insoumise, Joe Bocan fait un grand retour sur scène en solo. Dans l’élaboration de ce spectacle qui souligne aussi ses 40 ans de carrière, elle s’entoure de créateurs de la nouvelle génération qui lui permettent d’explorer toutes les facettes de sa démesure. Joe Bocan n’a jamais craint de se montrer authentique et ce n’est pas à 66 ans qu’elle s’empêchera d’être audacieuse, sexy,  provocante.   Artiste engagée fidèle à elle-même, Joe Bocan revisite son répertoire en offrant ses grands succès dans un nouvel écrin, comme elle a su si bien le faire avec Apocalypso et Les femmes voilées dans le spectacle Pour une histoire d’un soir. Elle propose aussi les nouvelles chansons de son album qui paraîtra à l’automne 2024, où elle aborde des thèmes actuels vus à travers son propre regard.   De belles surprises nous attendent aussi avec des interprétations de chansons connues que l’on croirait écrites pour elle, tant elles lui collent à la peau. Durant ce spectacle, Joe incarne aussi d’autres femmes, d’autres histoires, d’autres vies. Et pour leur donner la parole, elle nous fait entrer dans leur univers le temps d’un court monologue, d’un personnage, d’une chanson. Insoumise est un spectacle théâtral, à l’image de Joe Bocan.  Il porte la signature d’une artiste profondément moderne, d’une femme inspirée et indépendante qui défie les interdits avec passion.   Voir Joe Bocan en spectacle est une expérience en soi !  Voilà une diva pop qui ne craint pas la folie, l’exubérance, l’irrévérence.

With Insoumise, Joe Bocan makes a grand solo return to the stage. In creating this show, which also celebrates her 40-year career, she surrounds herself with a new generation of creators who help her explore every facet of her boldness. OSM : Haydn et Chostakovitch – un saisissant contraste

Haydn a joué un rôle fondamental dans l’évolution du quatuor à cordes, et dans son dernier Quatuor op. 77 no 2, il se livre à des expérimentations subtiles avec finesse et inventivité. Chostakovitch, quant à lui, revisite les formes classiques dans son Quintette, avec un langage très personnel et une grande intensité émotionnelle.

Haydn played a key role in the evolution of the string quartet, and his final Quartet Op. 77  No. 2 is full of subtle experimentation that is both inventive and elegant. Meanwhile, Shostakovich reinterprets classical forms in his Quintet, infusing it with his deeply personal language and profound emotional intensity.
