An anti-star nevertheless propelled into the firmament of Quebec’s top songwriters, composers and singers, Safia Nolin has established herself as she was, and for what she was. The clarity of her voice and words seem to have gradually overcome the anxiety and depression she battled, a posture that could have easily been perceived as victimhood. The victim, it’s clear, rescued herself through creativity. She scraped the bottom of her barrel, dragging out poetic and musical particles that let her emerge as an artist and be reborn as a human being. Set to ethereal guitars and very beautiful saturation effects, Dans le noir is the result of this remarkable process.
