As part of the Souk du Sud Festival, music becomes a space for dialogue between cultures, regions, and memories. Today, I invite you to discover a project that offers just such an encounter.
Nicolas Lossen is a guitarist, singer-songwriter, and producer from Martinique whose work lies at the intersection of contemporary jazz and Caribbean music. As the founder of Jazz à la Pointe in Martinique, he is particularly interested in issues of heritage, identity, and cultural transmission.
With his new project, NATIVE, he explores the heritage and memories of the First Nations of the Americas. Born out of research residencies in French Guiana, encounters with Indigenous artists, and recording sessions in New York, NATIVE seeks to create a dialogue between contemporary jazz and living traditions, without resorting to folklorization.
Nicolas Lossen gave an interview to Keithy Antoine, and together they discussed creativity, memory, cultural encounters, and his upcoming performance on the main stage at the Souk du Sud this Saturday, September 5, at 5 p.m.
