Additional Information
There are those encounters whose emotional strength one does not suspect will emerge. My conversation with soprano Karina Gauvin in anticipation of her recital on June 3, 2026, at the Classica Festival is one of those. The Quebec artist will perform Richard Strauss’s Four Last Songs for the first time in her life, a poignant work with exquisite emotional subtlety. It is in a version with a chamber orchestra, arranged by Olivier Larue, that the masterpiece will be performed. Also on the program, a chamber version of Mahler’s First Symphony, “Titan,” an arrangement by Klaus Simon. Listen with me as Karina shares very intimate and deeply touching reflections on her personal relationship with this end-of-life music (Strauss wrote it in his last year before dying).
