After 2011’s very forgettable American Specialities, Parquet Courts came back to the spotlight with Light Up Gold, an unpretentious and oh so enjoyable album. Fifteen tracks, 33 minutes and as many hooks. Both funny and sardonic, the work is a joyful cross between the punk of early Wire and slacker indie rock à la Pavement. However, the band managed to establish a signature sound that was confirmed on its subsequent albums. Although not as successful as its successors, Light Up Gold is the most infectious of their now impressive discography.
