Don Cherry, Charlie Haden, Ed Blackwell, Dewey Redman: gathered under the Old and New Dreams banner, the former collaborators of saxophonist and visionary composer Ornette Coleman invoked and extended his legacy. A generation later, Joshua Redman, son of Dewey and a skilled saxophonist in his own right, brought together Brian Blade, drums, Scott Colley, double bass and Ron Miles, cornet, to reactivate the Ornette file. As much for the performance of the compositions as for their improvisations, these superb jazzmen could be counted on to display superior technique while preserving the original spirit of this timeless language.
