In an age when critical thinking, nuanced sentiment and policed language are the source of so much friction, Feu! Chatterton is one of those contrarian acts that counter the current inclement conditions. Drunk on stylistic source material, these Parisian rock ’n’ writers arrive at the right time on the French-speaking cultural map. In their electro-rock tunes, made as they may be with guitars, keyboards or machines, the group applies a fraught literary lyricism that muddies the waters between singular refinement and outdated affectation. Never mind, the power of words carries the day, in keeping with current sounds, and the results are persuasive.
