Pioneer of a proliferating new generation of street rap, Shreez unveils his first studio album, On Frap. On this 48-minute opus, the rapper revisits and perfects his winning recipe: the adaptation of American drill and trap to Quebec culture. His iconic ad libs (“Ça pue!”, “On fouette!”), conceived in collaboration with Tizzo, juxtaposed with dark productions and catchy lyrics, create a unique atmosphere on Quebec soil. Although his status is already consolidated on the street-rap scene in La Belle Province, the rest of the local hip-hop community should welcome Shreez and his contagious energy. Humbly depicting his rise to fame on “Plankton”, or illustrating his anti-conformism on “Jean dit”, the Laval native presents 16 tracks exploring different atmospheres while maintaining sufficient cohesion. A palpable sense of brotherhood allows his many guest collaborators (Tizzo, White-B, Soft, le ice, etc.) to express themselves with ease on the project. On Frap is, in short, a light, easily listenable work, full of hilarious features and winks to Quebec culture, that’ll put a smile on your face. Shreez is no longer just a hope for keb rap, but one of the biggest names on the scene. It’s only a matter of time before that’s fully appreciated.
