The Nouvel Opéra Métropolitain, closely associated with the Classica festival, takes over the Co-Cathedral of Longueuil and welcomes jazz lovers, film buffs, and music enthusiasts with a penchant for opera to a journey through the repertoire of Michel Legrand. His classics—Les moulins de mon cœur, Les mariés de l’an II, Les Parapluies de Cherbourg, Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, Yentl, Peau d’Âne, and many more—are presented here in a hybrid setting where opera, symphony, and jazz converge. Principal conductor of the Cannes National Orchestra, Benjamin Lévy leads the Classica Festival Orchestra here, bringing together three of our greatest opera voices, as well as a dynamic trio featuring pianist Lorraine Desmarais, drummer Paul Brochu, and double bassist Éric Lagacé. Following an intense rehearsal cycle, renowned jazz pianist Lorraine Desmarais shares her enthusiasm ahead of this ambitious program, which will be presented on Saturday, June 6, at the Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue Co-Cathedral in Longueuil.
