South Korean pianist Yeol Eum Son’s new album doesn’t lack the for versatility and energy for which she is internationally renowned. Her eclecticism is still pronounced: after her acclaimed interpretations of Mozart, Berg and Ravel, she now presents an album entirely devoted to Schumann. As an opening, the Fantasy in C major op. 17, followed by Kreisleriana op. 16, two pieces from the composer’s youth in which intense and virtuosic flashes alternate with moments when gentleness and lyricism take over, highlighting Son’s brilliant playing. The Arabesque in C major op. 18 concludes the album in all simplicity.
