Au cours des treize dernières années, Thursday a été dans un état constant de transition. Nés à New Brunswick, NJ, au milieu d’un renouveau de la culture DIY, ils semblaient en décalage avec le hardcore traditionnel de leurs pairs. Privilégiant les rythmes post-punk déchiquetés aux breakdowns métalliques et citant Neil Young et le poète post-moderne Michael Palmer plutôt que Henry Rollins et Noam Chomsky, le groupe a toujours semblé en désaccord avec l’étiquette maladroitement appliquée de « pionniers du post-hardcore ». Avec ce point de départ, ils se sont lancés dans une quête effrénée pour trouver leur place dans le monde : ils ont tourné avec tout le monde, des Cure à Cursive, en élargissant et en affinant sans cesse leur vocabulaire musical.
For the last thirteen years, Thursday has been in a constant state of transition. Rising from New Brunswick, NJ, in the midst of a DIY basement culture revival, they seemed out of step with the traditional hardcore of their peers. Favoring jagged post-punk rhythms over metallic breakdowns and quoting from Neil Young and post-modern poet, Michael Palmer, instead of Henry Rollins and Noam Chomsky, the band always seemed at odds with the awkwardly applied label of « post-hardcore pioneers ». With this starting point, they set out wildly to find their place in the world: touring with everyone from the Cure to Cursive, continually expanding and refining their musical vocabulary.
