Steel Panther

En se faisant passer de manière satirique pour un groupe de hair metal ayant manqué sa chance dans les années 80, le chanteur Ralph Saenz (Michael Starr), le batteur Darren Leader (Stix Zadinia), le bassiste Travis Haley (Lexxi Foxxx) et le guitariste Russ Parrish (Satchel) ont écumé les clubs du Sunset Strip au tournant du millénaire sous le nom de Metal Shop (plus tard rebaptisé Metal Skool, puis Steel Panther). Avec leurs perruques volumineuses, vestes en cuir, spandex à rayures zébrées, une technique acquise en jouant dans un groupe hommage à Van Halen, et une dose massive de machisme, leur parodie des excès du sexe, des drogues et du rock’n’roll a rapidement séduit le public, entraînant des concerts à guichets fermés et quelques incursions inattendues dans le grand public. À mesure que leur popularité grandissait, la scène hollywoodienne se pressait à leurs concerts, avec des apparitions fréquentes sur scène. Cela leur a ouvert des portes : le groupe a incarné le groupe de metal Danger Kitty dans une publicité pour Discover Card, a joué son propre rôle dans The Drew Carey Show, et sa chanson FF a été utilisée comme thème de l’émission Fantasy Factory sur MTV.

Satirically pretending to be a hair metal band that missed its big break in the ’80s, singer Ralph Saenz (« Michael Starr »), drummer Darren Leader (« Stix Zadinia »), bassist Travis Haley (« Lexxi Foxxx »), and guitarist Russ Parrish (« Satchel ») hit the club circuit on the Sunset Strip around the turn of the millennium under the name Metal Shop (later changed to Metal Skool and then to Steel Panther). With big, spiky wigs, leather jackets, zebra-striped spandex, chops earned from playing in a Van Halen tribute band, and lots and lots of machismo, their comic take on sex, drugs, and rock & roll to the extreme caught on quickly, leading to sold-out shows and some unexpected brushes with mainstream success. As their popularity increased, the Hollywood crowd started frequenting their sets, often making appearances on-stage. This led to some opportunities: the group fittingly played the metal band « Danger Kitty » in a Discover Card commercial; they appeared on The Drew Carey Show as themselves; and their song « FF » was used as the theme for MTV’s Fantasy Factory.

Buckcherry

Arrivé à la fin des années 90, alors que le post-grunge s’éteignait et que le nu-metal gagnait du terrain, Buckcherry a fièrement entretenu la flamme du hard rock décadent. Le groupe s’est présenté comme un retour assumé à l’âge d’or du Sunset Strip des années 80, considérant Mötley Crüe comme ses pairs plutôt que Limp Bizkit. Son premier album éponyme, paru en 1999, a produit le hit Lit Up, qui s’est hissé au sommet du palmarès Mainstream Rock, permettant au groupe de se maintenir jusqu’à ce qu’il connaisse un succès inattendu en 2006 avec son troisième album, 15. Porté par le sulfureux Crazy Bitch et la ballade Sorry (qui a atteint le Top 10), l’album a été certifié platine, un succès qui a permis au groupe de traverser les décennies malgré de nombreux changements de formation, avec toujours le chanteur Josh Todd comme pilier. Buckcherry a sorti son dixième album studio, judicieusement intitulé Vol. 10, en 2023.

Arriving in the late ’90s amidst the embers of post-grunge and the rise of nu-metal, Buckcherry proudly kept the torch of hard rock sleaze burning. The band styled themselves as deliberate throwbacks to the glory days of the ’80s Sunset Strip, acting as if their peers were Mötley Crüe instead of Limp Bizkit. Their eponymous 1999 debut generated the number one mainstream rock hit « Lit Up, » which was enough to keep the band afloat until they had an unexpected hit in 2006 with their third album, 15. Boasting the sordid rocker « Crazy Bitch » and « Sorry » (a power ballad that cracked the Top Ten), the album was certified platinum, a success that buoyed the group for decades amid numerous lineup changes, but always anchored by singer Josh Todd. Buckcherry issued their tenth studio album, the aptly named Vol. 10, in 2023.

AJJ est un groupe prolifique de folk-punk originaire de Phoenix, Arizona, dont le son sauvage intègre une instrumentation éclectique (cuivres, Theremin, mandoline, scie musicale) et explore une multitude de sujets allant de l’actualité et la politique à l’absurde. Pro Musica : Trio Mirzoev, McConnell et Rivard-Landry

La violoniste Julia Mirzoev a été présentée à l’émission « Top 30 Classical Musicians Under 30 » de la CBC, à la radio 94.1 et à la radio classique 96.3 FM. Elle a remporté de nombreux prix, notamment le prix pour l’œuvre commandée aux concours internationaux Michael Hill et Klein, le concours de l’OSM et le grand prix du Concours de musique du Canada. Julia s’est également produite en solo avec le Scarborough Philharmonic, Sinfonia Toronto, le Canadian Sinfonietta, l’University of Toronto Symphony, Orchestra Toronto et le Toronto Symphony. En tant que chambriste, Julia a remporté le concours de musique de chambre de Yale et a été invitée aux festivals de musique de chambre de Sarasota, Manchester, Toronto, Perlman, Colorado College et Yellow Barn Music. Elle a obtenu sa licence auprès de Jonathan Crow à l’université de Toronto et sa maîtrise à la Yale School of Music auprès d’Ani Kavafian, où elle a reçu le prix Broadus Erle pour l’obtention de son diplôme. Lauréate du Prix de Violon d’Or, Julia a obtenu son Artist Diploma à la Schulich School of Music, où elle a étudié avec Andrew Wan, et est actuellement un Rebanks Fellow à la Conservatoire Royale. Julia est reconnaissante au Conseil des Arts du Canada pour le prêt d’un violon Janarius Gagliano.
Braden McConnell a étudié́ à l’École de musique Schulich de l’Université́ McGill, où il a complété́ une maitrise en interprétation. Il a participé́ à plusieurs concours et a été́ lauréat pour de nombreux prix. En tant qu’artiste invité, il a fait une tournée au Brésil et en Argentine et s’est produit au Carnegie Hall. Chambriste passionné, il a fait partie des Quatuors à cordes Persé et Myriade et a collaboré avec Andrew Wan, Philip Chiu et Jamie Parker.
Antoine Rivard-Landry est un pianiste apprécié pour sa sensibilité, son charisme et son authenticité d’expression. Il commence son parcours avec Jennifer Bourdages et découvre dès 12 ans le plaisir de jouer avec orchestre lors d’un concert avec l’Orchestre Métropolitain dans la série Airs de jeunesse, avec Pierre Tourville à la direction. Il participe ensuite à plusieurs concours provinciaux et nationaux, dont celui de l’Orchestre de Trois-Rivières où il remporte la première place, puis à celui de l’Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, où il remporte le 2e prix dans la catégorie B. Il part ensuite étudier à la prestigieuse Juilliard School de New-York dans la classe de Robert McDonald.

Violinist Julia Mirzoev was featured on CBC’s Top 30 Classical Musicians Under 30, as well as on 94.1 FM and Classical 96.3 FM. She has won numerous awards, including the Commissioned Work Prize at the Michael Hill and Klein International Competitions, the OSM Competition, and the Grand Prize at the Canada Music Competition. Julia has performed as a soloist with the Scarborough Philharmonic, Sinfonia Toronto, Canadian Sinfonietta, University of Toronto Symphony, Orchestra Toronto, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
As a chamber musician, she won the Yale Chamber Music Competition and has been invited to the Sarasota, Manchester, Toronto, Perlman, Colorado College, and Yellow Barn Music festivals. Julia completed her Bachelor’s degree with Jonathan Crow at the University of Toronto and her Master’s degree at the Yale School of Music with Ani Kavafian, receiving the Broadus Erle Prize upon graduation. A Golden Violin Prize winner, she obtained her Artist Diploma at the Schulich School of Music, studying with Andrew Wan, and is currently a Rebanks Fellow at the Royal Conservatory. Julia is grateful to the Canada Council for the Arts for the loan of a Janarius Gagliano violin.
Braden McConnell completed his Master’s degree in Performance at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University. He has participated in several competitions, earning numerous awards. As a guest artist, he toured in Brazil and Argentina and performed at Carnegie Hall. A passionate chamber musician, he has been a member of the Persé and Myriade string quartets and collaborated with Andrew Wan, Philip Chiu, and Jamie Parker.
Praised for his sensitivity, charisma, and authentic expression, pianist Antoine Rivard-Landry began his studies with Jennifer Bourdages and discovered his passion for orchestral performance at age 12, playing with the Orchestre Métropolitain in the Airs de jeunesse series under the baton of Pierre Tourville. He went on to participate in several provincial and national competitions, winning first prize at the Orchestre de Trois-Rivières competition and second prize in Category B of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal competition. He later studied at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York with Robert McDonald.

Machine Head

Quatuor de heavy metal de la côte ouest des États-Unis, Machine Head a marqué le mouvement New Wave of American Heavy Metal au milieu des années 90 avec ses riffs percutants et ses grooves puissants. Le style agressif et varié du groupe, mêlant thrash, groove et nu-metal, a donné naissance à des albums contemporains majeurs comme Burn My Eyes (1994), The Burning Red (1999), Through the Ashes of Empires (2003) et The Blackening (2007). Mené par le chanteur, guitariste et seul membre permanent Robb Flynn, Machine Head a sorti son dixième album studio Of Kingdom and Crown en 2022.

A hugely influential West Coast heavy metal quartet, Machine Head’s neck-snapping riffs and earth-shaking grooves helped shape the New Wave of American Heavy Metal movement of the early mid-’90s. The band’s aggressive and wide-ranging style, which combines elements of thrash, groove, and nu-metal, has yielded seminal contemporary metal efforts like Burn My Eyes (1994), The Burning Red (1999), Through the Ashes of Empires (2003), and The Blackening (2007). Led by vocalist, guitarist, and sole constant member Robb Flynn, Machine Head released their tenth studio long-player Of Kingdom and Crown in 2022.

In Flames

Groupe suédois prolifique et influent, In Flames a contribué à établir la scène du death metal mélodique moderne et du metalcore au début des années 2000.
