Si depuis 2017 il s’est posé à New York et s’est joint au Super Yamba Band, le chanteur et guitariste béninois Leon Ligan-Majek, alias Kaleta, a toute une feuille de route! Après avoir été repéré par nul autre que King Sunny Ade, il a tourné de nombreuses années avec Egypt 80, le groupe de Fela Kuti, et collaboré avec Lauryn Hill. Héritier de la culture pop des années 60-70, Kaleta & Super Yamba Band propose un son touffu, aux accents psychédéliques, en équilibre entre Afrobeat, Juju, Soul et Funk, porté par une instrumentation dense composée de guitares, basse, batterie, claviers, cuivres et percussions diverses.
Although he has lived in New York since 2017, where he joined up with Super Yamba Band, the Beninese singer/guitarist Leon Ligan-Majek, AKA Kaleta, has followed an impressive career path. After being discovered by none other than King Sunny Adé, he toured several years with Fela Kuti’s band, Egypt 80, and later collaborated with the likes of Lauryn Hill. With a rich sound reminiscent of 60s and 70s pop culture, complete with psychedelic undertones, Kaleta & Super Yamba Band achieve a perfect blend of Afrobeat, Juju, soul and funk, carried by a selection of guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, brass and a variety of percussion instruments.
