C’est alors qu’il est directeur du Conservatoire de New York que Dvořák compose sa Sonatine, op. 100, notamment inspirée par un récent voyage en Pennsylvanie et dans laquelle il reprend des couleurs de sa Symphonie « Du Nouveau Monde ». Copland et Kroll s’inspirent quant à eux des danses folkloriques américaines alors que Still nous propose une Suite ancrée dans les racines afro-américaines de Harlem.
Violinist Hao Zhou – 1st Prize winner of the 2019 Montreal International Musical Competition – and pianist Philip Chiu invite you to a concert in which our neighbour to the South shines in many of its artistic facets! During his time as Director of the New York Conservatory, Dvořák composed the Sonatina, op. 100, inspired notably by his recent trip to Pennsylvania and bearing some of the same colours as his famous Symphony “From the New World.” Copland and Kroll were both inspired by American folk dances, while Still’s Suite is steeped in the African American heritage of Harlem.
