Quand Rossini composa ce chef d’œuvre, non seulement il était âgé de 71 ans, mais il avait officiellement pris sa retraite depuis 34 ans! Ce « dernier péché mortel de ma vieillesse », suivant ses propres mots, ne cesse de nous éblouir par son inventivité magistrale et ses mélodies d’opéra délicieuses, d’autant plus qu’elles portent l’habit solennel d’une (petite) messe! Rossini composed this masterpiece at 71 years of age, 34 years after he had retired from composing operas! This last of his self-described “sins of old age” continues to amaze us with its masterful inventiveness and compelling operatic flair, all the more so because this ‘poor little mass’ is reverent in its conviction to the sacred mass text. Conducted by Matthias Maute, with soloists Myriam Leblanc, Florence Bourget, Antonio Figueroa, and Hugo Laporte, accompanied by the Ensemble vocal Arts-Québec.
