Exutoire de Raphaël Pépin-Tanguay, Velours Velours roule sa bosse depuis 2020, se taillant rapidement une place parmi les coups de cœur de mélomanes d’ici. Après avoir évolué sur scène aux côtés d’Étienne Coppée, l’auteur-compositeur-interprète lance Fauve, un premier EP coréalisé avec Philippe Brach en 2022. Sa pop décomplexée, tantôt teintée d’accents rétro, tantôt brûlante de jeunesse, sert autant de trame sonore aux errances montréalaises qu’aux road trips gaspésiens. Couronné du Prix de la fondation Socan en 2022 et élu «artiste à surveiller» par Radio-Canada en 2023, Velours Velours chante avec puissance & sincérité et adore conceptualiser des spectacles (dont les fameux Bals en bleus).
Le 31 janvier 2025, il a dévoilé toutes ses couleurs sur son tout premier album intitulé Quand je pleure, je suis content, réalisé par Christophe Charest-Latif. À la fois ambitieux et intime, à la fois tendre et passionnel, cet opus promet de faire couler de l’encre et toucher plus d’un cœur.
The creative outlet of Raphaël Pépin-Tanguay, Velours Velours has been carving out a space in the Quebec music scene since 2020, quickly becoming a favorite among local music lovers. After performing alongside Étienne Coppée, the singer-songwriter released Fauve, his debut EP co-produced with Philippe Brach, in 2022. His uninhibited pop, at times tinged with retro accents and at others blazing with youthful energy, serves equally well as a soundtrack for late-night wanderings in Montreal or road trips through the Gaspé. Awarded the SOCAN Foundation Prize in 2022 and named an “Artist to Watch” by Radio-Canada in 2023, Velours Velours sings with power and sincerity, and has a distinct flair for creating immersive live experiences—most notably his signature Bals en bleus.
On January 31, 2025, he unveiled Quand je pleure, je suis content, his full-length debut album produced by Christophe Charest-Latif. Both ambitious and intimate, tender and fiery, the album is sure to make waves and touch more than a few hearts.
