Le chanteur et guitariste canadien de metal progressif Devin Townsend a été qualifié de « multi-everythingist » par la presse rock. En plus d’être un instrumentiste célébré, il est compositeur, producteur, arrangeur et chef d’orchestre. Sa première apparition enregistrée remonte à son rôle de chanteur dans le groupe de Steve Vai sur Sex & Religion. Il a également collaboré avec Front Line Assembly et Skinny Puppy, et a dirigé le groupe de metal extrême Strapping Young Lad. Sa carrière solo, entamée en 1997 avec l’opus de science-fiction Ocean Machine (Biomech), fait l’objet de débats passionnés dans les cercles de musique extrême. Il a enregistré plus de deux douzaines d’albums studio et live avec divers musiciens. Son projet conceptuel et progressif The Devin Townsend Project est sans doute son projet le plus connu. Les albums Ki (2009), Ziltoid (Dark Matters) (2015) et Transcendence (2016) illustrent ses ambitions à travers des projets unifiés, accessibles et provocateurs, salués par les communautés metal et prog-rock. Canadian progressive metal singer and guitarist Devin Townsend has been referred in the rock press as a « multi-everythingist »; in addition to being a celebrated instrumentalist, he is a composer, producer, arranger, and bandleader. While his earliest recorded appearance was as a vocalist with Steve Vai’s band on Sex & Religion, he also worked with Front Line Assembly and Skinny Puppy, and led the almost unbearably heavy extreme metal group Strapping Young Lad. Comme Skrillex et Girl Talk avant lui, le DJ et producteur allemand Valentin Brunn privilégie les montages rapides et chaotiques lorsqu’il publie ses enregistrements EDM sous le nom de Virtual Riot. Né et élevé à Marl, en Allemagne, Brunn a lancé ce projet en 2011 avec l’EP From Space sur le label Phantom Hertz Recordings. Ce même label a sorti l’EP Phantom la même année, puis l’empreinte Quantum a publié l’EP SuperHuman en 2012. Sectionz Records a sorti son premier album There Goes Your Money en 2013, tandis que l’EP Sugar Rush est paru sur Audiophile Live la même année. En 2014, son EP We Are Not Alone a marqué le début de sa collaboration avec Discipline Recordings, qui a également sorti les EP Nightmare et Machinery en 2015, ainsi que Chemistry en 2016.

Jouant un rock furieux, épuré et enraciné dans le metalcore et le hardcore, ’68 est le projet du guitariste et chanteur Josh Scogin. Le groupe adhère clairement à l’idée que moins c’est plus : composé uniquement d’un guitariste et d’un batteur, ils créent un son à la fois plein et percutant. Leurs morceaux montrent une influence évidente du blues, tout en conservant l’impact écrasant du hard rock, tandis que les paroles témoignent d’une recherche des réponses de la vie, exprimée avec une passion furieuse. Les influences hardcore de ’68 étaient les plus marquées sur leur premier album In Humor and Sadness (2014), tandis qu’avec Two Parts Viper (2017), leurs accents blues sont davantage mis en avant, et Give One Take One (2021) met l’accent sur un hard rock direct, tout en étant livré avec leur niveau habituel d’intensité.

Playing furious, stripped-to-the-frame rock rooted in metalcore and hardcore, ’68 was the creation of guitarist and vocalist Josh Scogin. The group clearly subscribe to the notion that less is more; consisting of just a guitarist and a drummer, they generate a sound that is full and hard hitting. The tunes show a clear blues influence along with their crushing hard rock impact, while the vocals document a search for life’s answers expressed with a furious passion. ’68’s hardcore influences were strongest on their 2014 debut album In Humor and Sadness, while 2017’s Two Parts Viper brought their blues accents up in the mix, and 2021’s Give One Take One put a renewed emphasis on straightforward hard rock, albeit delivered with their standard level of intensity.

An English singer, songwriter, and producer, LAUREL is known for her sparkling, soulful alt-pop. collectif9 et Architek Percussion mènent une réflexion poétique sur l’identité et l’appartenance, à travers les mots et les sons.
L’ancrage du spectacle est le poème bilingue across/virage, de l’auteur et performeur canadien Kaie Kellough, qui évoque les thèmes de la langue et de l’appartenance à un lieu, une culture. Le programme explore les styles de cinq compositeur-ices multidisciplinaires d’exception: Eliot Britton, Nicole Lizée, Derek Charke, Luna Pearl Woolf et Bret Higgins. Sur scène, le lyrisme, le groove et les textures exploratoires des compositions rejoignent la voix du récitant Kaie Kellough, créant un dialogue entre la musique et la poésie.

My Backyard, Somewhere is a reflection of our sense of connection between people and places: a poetic migration through words and sounds.
Anchoring the show is the bilingual poem “across/virage” by Canadian author and performer Kaie Kellough, an integrating element bringing the themes of the programme to the forefront – movement, language, belonging to a place, a culture. The music, written for the two ensembles, is a journey through the styles of five multidisciplinary composers from across Canada – Eliot Britton, Nicole Lizée, Derek Charke, Luna Pearl Woolf, and Bret Higgins. Whether with lyricism, groove, exploratory textures, or pop culture technologies, the voices of the composers, author, and performers communicate with each other and with the audience throughout the concert. collectif9 and Architek Percussion are joined on stage by Kaie Kellough (spoken word).
