Over the past 10 years, the art of this composer, instrumentalist, lyricist and singer has gained in substance, culminating this year with Aviary, one of the best multi-genre works of the decade. For her ability to create a coherent and unique whole with apparently disparate aesthetic components, Julia Holter should be considered a leading composer.
