CRACKS IN THE ICE est une compilation caritative (cassette/numérique) publiée par le label Lost Children, dont les bénéfices seront reversés au Council on American-Islamic Relations Minnesota (CAIR-MN) et au Public Media Institute de Chicago. Nous célébrerons la sortie de cet album lors d’une soirée d’écoute de 17 h à 19 h à la Casa del Popolo, le 27 juin.
Cette compilation caritative rassemble un réseau d’artistes expérimentaux qui ont créé des œuvres ouvrant un espace d’exploration sonore et de tension en cette période d’intensification de l’impérialisme frontalier aux États-Unis et à l’échelle internationale, avec des travaux qui réfléchissent sur leurs propres expériences personnelles des frontières et les interrogent. Cette compilation comporte deux volets : l’un explore les textures sonores d’un monde morcelé par les frontières coloniales, avec des œuvres qui explorent la frontière sonore. L’autre consiste en des enregistrements directs et lo-fi de musiciens ayant directement vécu les défis de la migration dans leur vie, enregistrés à Montréal.
En plus d’une séance d’écoute de la compilation, cet événement comprendra de courtes performances live d’artistes représentant ce deuxième volet : Anas Hejam, Hamza Lahmadi et Lubo Alexandrov.

Stefan Christoff est un créateur de médias, un militant communautaire et un artiste vivant à Montréal. Il anime l’émission de radio Free City Radio, diffusée chaque semaine sur neuf stations communautaires au Canada et disponible dans le monde entier sous forme de balado (Spotify et Apple Podcasts). Stefan collabore musicalement avec de nombreux artistes internationaux, dont Anarchist Mountains, Aidan Baker, Adriana Camancho, Aidan Girt, Lori Goldston, Nicolás Jaar, Sessa, Nour Sokhon et Joseph Sannicandro. Il siège au conseil d’administration du Centre des travailleurs immigrants du quartier Côte-des-Neiges à Montréal, contribue à l’organisation de Cinema Politica, collabore régulièrement à Radio AlHara en Palestine et coordonne le soutien à la résidence Sounds of Places au Wonder Cabinet en Palestine. Stefan est également artiste de rue, travaille avec le Centre de justice sociale et poursuit actuellement des études supérieures en histoire à l’Université Concordia à Montréal.
CRACKS IN THE ICE is a benefit compilation (tape/digital) released by Lost Children label, with proceeds going to the Council on American-Islamic Relations Minnesota (CAIR-MN) and the Public Media Institute in Chicago. We’ll be celebrating the launch of this release with a listening party 5 a 7 at Casa del Popolo on 27 June.
This benefit brings together a network of experimental artists who have created works that create a space of sonic inquiry and tension at this moment of heightened border imperialism in the US and internationally, with work that reflects upon and interrogates their own personal experiences with borders. There are two strains to this release: one is an exploration of sonic textures of a world cut up by colonial border lines, works that explore the sonic frontier. The other consists of direct, lo-fi recordings of musicians who experienced directly the challenges of migration in their lives, recorded in Montreal.
In addition to a compilation listening session, this event will include short live performances by artists representing that second strain: Anas Hejam, Hamza Lahmadi, and Lubo Alexandrov.

Stefan Christoff is a media maker, community activist and artist living in Montréal. Stefan hosts the radio program Free City Radio, broadcasting weekly on nine community stations in Canada and shared globally as a podcast (Spotify + Apple Podcasts). Stefan makes music with many people globally, including Anarchist Mountains, Aidan Baker, Adriana Camancho, Aidan Girt, Lori Goldston, Nicolás Jaar, Sessa, Nour Sokhon and Joseph Sannicandro. Stefan is on the board of the Immigrant Workers Centre in the Côte-des-Neiges district of Montreal, contributes organizationally to Cinema Politica, is a regular contributor to Radio AlHara in Palestine and coordinates support for the Sounds of Places residency at The Wonder Cabinet in Palestine. Stefan is also a street artist and works with the Social Justice Centre and is currently a graduate student in history at Concordia University in Montreal.
