Y’a matière au pays des éclairs is an audiovisual performance that merges the soundscapes of musician Frédéric Boisclair with live 16mm film projections by filmmaker Charles-André Coderre. The performance explores hydroelectric, aluminum, and pulp and paper plants located in Shawinigan, in the Mauricie region of Quebec. Initiated by Frédéric Boisclair, who comes from a family of industrial workers, the piece is composed of original material as well as 16mm archival footage sourced from discarded corporate films shot in local factories. Y’a matière au pays des éclairs examines the places and materials tied to the industrial collective imagination of Mauricie, offering a poetic and critical reflection on the region’s manufacturing legacy.
