A treasure of inventiveness, these subtly contrasted orchestral miniatures provide a captivating introduction to Mendelssohn’s First Piano Concerto. Under the fingers of pianist Élisabeth Pion, a rising young Quebec star and recipient of numerous international awards, this radiant score becomes a declaration of love to a young pianist who had utterly captivated the composer. Its infectious exuberance paves the way for Dvořák’s luminous Eighth Symphony, inspired by Bohemian dances and folk songs. At the time of its composition, Dvořák was living a peaceful life in a Czech village, which inspired a work filled with joy and poetry, culminating in a dizzying bacchanale that will leave no one unmoved!
