Gala du centenaire d’Oscar Peterson : Canadiana Suite, avec l’Oscar Peterson Centennial Quartet et Jazz Orchestra sous la direction de John Clayton.
Dans le même édifice où le grand Oscar Peterson a donné son dernier concert inoubliable à Montréal, 21 ans plus tard, le Festival International de Jazz de Montréal et les coproducteurs Jim Doxas et Céline Peterson commémoreront fièrement le 100^e anniversaire de Peterson avec une soirée de musique célébrant la carrière de près de sept décennies de l’un des trésors nationaux les plus aimés du Canada.
L’Oscar Peterson Centennial Quartet – Robi Botos, Mike Downes, Jocelyn Gould et Jim Doxas – ouvrira la soirée avec des sélections tirées du vaste catalogue de musique originale de Peterson, ainsi que quelques standards de jazz que les fans d’OP écoutent depuis des décennies. Après cette prestation, l’OPCQ sera rejoint par l’Oscar Peterson Centennial Jazz Orchestra et son directeur invité spécial, le bassiste, compositeur, arrangeur et chef d’orchestre John Clayton, lauréat d’un GRAMMY. La Maison symphonique sera ensuite remplie des sons de la bien-aimée Canadiana Suite de Peterson (arrangée par John Clayton), qui célèbre elle-même son 60^e anniversaire cette année.
La soirée se terminera par un concert final très spécial et la remise du prix Oscar Peterson de cette année par Céline Peterson et un invité surprise.

In the same building where the great Oscar Peterson performed his last unforgettable concert in Montreal, 21 years later, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal and co-producers Jim Doxas and Céline Peterson will proudly commemorate the occasion of Peterson’s 100^th birthday with a full evening of music celebrating the nearly 7-decade career of one of Canada’s most beloved national treasures.
Featuring a performance from the Oscar Peterson Centennial Quartet — Robi Botos, Mike Downes, Jocelyn Gould, and Jim Doxas — the evening will open with selections from Peterson’s extensive catalogue of original music as well as a few of the jazz standards that OP fans have been listening to for decades. Following this performance, the OPCQ will be joined by the Oscar Peterson Centennial Jazz Orchestra and very special guest director, GRAMMY Award-winning bassist, composer, arranger, and bandleader John Clayton. Maison symphonique will then be filled with the sounds of Peterson’s beloved Canadiana Suite (arr. John Clayton), which itself is celebrating its 60^th anniversary this year.
The evening will conclude with a very special finale performance and the presentation of this year’s Oscar Peterson Award from Céline Peterson and a surprise guest.
