Catacombes – Les Âmes Oubliées

Active for almost 10 years, Catacombes plow the cemetery soil with a French-language black metal that, without really changing since their first album, has become more mastered, particularly with the current line-up, who delivered the excellent Des Glaires et des Briques in 2022, and who put a shovelful of earth back into the ground with this EP. On the other hand, there’s not too much improvement in the sound, perhaps deliberately cavernous, but with a slightly more polished production, the listener would gain a little more space and the drums a little more bite. But these are details, it’s hyper-competent and fans of the genre will surely find something to feed a few nightmares and will thrill the nostalgic with that old-school touch provided by DIY production.
