Artists

Soprano Julia Muzychenko is a rising star with an active operatic and concert career. She has won prizes at the Queen Elisabeth, Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Eva Marton, Tenor Viñas, Clermont-Ferrand, Montserrat Caballé, Sergei Rachmaninov and Virgilijus Noreika competitions, among others.

This year, she made her debut as Gilda in Rigoletto (Deutsche Oper Berlin) and in the title role of Le Coq d’or (Komische Oper Berlin), as well as singing Oksana in The Night Before Christmas Eve (Oper Frankfurt) and Musetta in La Bohème (Opéra national de Montpellier). In addition, she has given concerts with the Orchestre national de Belgique, a series of concerts at Berlin’s Konzerthaus with baritone Tobias Greenhalgh, and completed a tour of South Korea.

Recently, she has also sung the Swan Princess (The Tale of Tsar Saltan – Opéra national du Rhin), Violetta (La Traviata – Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Opera de Tenerife, Festival Verdi de Bussetto and Les nuits d’été de Marmande), Norina (Don Pasquale – Teatro Rovereto and Opéra national de Montpellier), Cinderella (The True Story of Cinderella – Mariinsky Theatre), Amina (La Sonnambula – Opéra Vichy, Opéra Limoges, Clermont Auvergne Opéra, Opéra d’Avignon, Opéra-Théâtre de Metz Métropole, and Opéra de Reims), as well as concerts with the Prague Orchestra at the Cartagènes Festival (Colombia), the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker at the Heidenheim Festival, and the Hungarian National Opera.

Ms. Muzychenko has been a member of the young artist programs at the Bolshoi Theater and the Houston Grand Opera, and more recently of the Junges Ensemble at the Dresden Semperoper, where she sang Musetta (La Bohème), Olympia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Sandmännchen/Taumännchen (Hänsel und Gretel) and Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), among others.

Helmut Deutsch is one of the world’s most refined and sought-after accompanists of opera recitals. Born in Vienna, he studied at the Conservatory, the Academy of Music and the University. He was awarded the Vienna Composition Prize in 1965, and was appointed professor at the age of twenty-four.

Although he has performed with illustrious instrumentalists as a chamber musician, he concentrates mainly on accompanying operatic recitals. Early in his career, he accompanied the soprano Irmgard Seefried, as well as Hermann Prey, with whom he was a regular partner for twelve years. Subsequently, he has worked with many illustrious performers, including Barbara Bonney, Grace Bubry, Brigitte Fassbaender, Angelika Kirchschlager, Matthias Goerne, Christoph Pregardien and Thomas Quasthoff, in the world’s greatest concert halls. His collaborations with Jonas Kaufmann, Diana Damrau and Michael Volle are currently among his most important.

Mr. Deutsch has more than a hundred recordings to his credit. In recent years, he has also dedicated himself to the development of young talent, which is particularly dear to his heart. Following his posting to Vienna, he mainly continued his teaching activities at Munich’s Hochschule für Musik und Theater, where he was Professor of Lied Interpretation for twenty-eight years.

He has also been a guest professor at several other universities, and is constantly invited to give master classes throughout Europe and the Far East. The young Swiss tenor Mauro Peter was one of his last students in Munich, and has become one of his most popular recital partners.
