Lauréate du Félix pour Artiste autochtone de l’année et Album de l’année – Langues autochtones au gala de l’ADISQ, du Teweikan dans la catégorie Folk, Meilleure interprétation et Prix coup de cœur du jury au Gala Teweikan et lauréate du Prix de l’auteure-compositeur Autochtone TD de la Fondation SOCAN, Laura Niquay est une artiste atikamekw originaire de Wemotaci en Mauricie. Dès l’enfance, nourrie par les sons des guitares classiques de sa famille, elle attrape à son tour une guitare pour composer ses propres chansons. Elle se démarque par sa voix incomparable et en chantant dans sa langue autochtone: l’atikamekw. Choisie sur la Longue liste Polaris en 2021 et parmi les meilleurs albums de l’année selon CBC Music, Exclaim! Journal Métro, La Presse, son nouvel album Waska Matisiwin, une œuvre sensible et grandiose qui nous dévoile mieux que jamais son univers folk-grunge. Finement travaillé pendant plusieurs années avec son acolyte Simon Walls à la réalisation et l’équipe de Musique Nomade à la production, pour donner lieu à un opus aux multiples couches, lumineuses, complexes. Avec les collaborations de Shauit, Anachnid, RedTails Spirit Singers, Gotta Lago, Eadsé, Kanen et Soleil Launière la diversité des voix et des sons autochtones rayonnent plus que jamais.

Winner of the Félix for Aboriginal Artist of the Year and Album of the Year – Aboriginal Languages at the ADISQ Gala, of the Teweikan in the Folk category, Best Performance and Jury’s Favourite Award at the Teweikan Gala, and winner of the TD Aboriginal Songwriter Award from the SOCAN Foundation, Laura Niquay is an Atikamekw artist from Wemotaci in Mauricie. From childhood, nurtured by the sounds of her family’s classical guitars, she picked up a guitar to compose her own songs. She distinguishes herself by her incomparable voice and by singing in her native language: Atikamekw. Chosen for the Polaris Long List in 2021 and among the best albums of the year by CBC Music, Exclaim! Journal Métro and La Presse, her new album Waska Matisiwin is a sensitive, grandiose work that reveals her folk-grunge universe better than ever. Finely crafted over several years with her sidekick Simon Walls on direction and the Musique Nomade team on production, the result is a multi-layered, luminous, complex opus. With collaborations from Shauit, Anachnid, RedTails Spirit Singers, Gotta Lago, Eadsé, Kanen and Soleil Launière, the diversity of native voices and sounds shines through more than ever.
