Nuits d’Afrique : Senaya

Wed 19 Jul 2023 • 07:00 pm Afro-Antillean
Scène Loto-Québec - Montréal Gratuit
· by Rédaction PAN M 360

“A sparkling Afro-Caribbean blend. She blends Guadeloupean and Senegalese music in a host of Blues gradations” (La Presse, 2023). These are the words that greeted her new album, Soûlkreôl Vol1/Roots/Racines, released earlier this year. Senaya lights up the stage, fiercely and magnificently free. With her brilliantly timbred voice, imbued with Jazz and Soul, in the style of Billie Holliday and Nina Simone, in Creole, Wolof, Portuguese, French, English and Spanish, the author, composer, performer and guitarist delivers her SoûlKreôl, an irresistible groove with humanist lyrics that draws on African and West Indian rhythms such as Makossa, Afrobeat, Zouglou, Biguine and Zouk, as well as Jazz, Soul, Funk, Blues, Folk, Spirituals and R&B.
