Mariant de manière parfaite et tout à fait surprenante une Folk d’influence canadienne et hongroise aux groove mandingues séculaires, Sophie Lukacs compose et interprète, en anglais, en français, en hongrois et en bambara, des ballades où se confondent les univers spatio-temporels. Reposant sur sa maîtrise de l’envoûtante kora aux 21 cordes, l’instrument qu’elle a choisi sur un coup de cœur après avoir longtemps pratiqué le violon, la musique de celle qui a suivi les enseignements du maître Toumani Diabaté est véritablement enchanteresse. Lauréate du Prix Coup de coeur 2022 Télé-Québec au concours MUZ | Vision Diversité, son premier album, Bamako, sorti sous étiquette Disques Nuits d’Afrique en 2023, contient deux titres avec Habib Koité.
Sophie Lukacs composes and performs ballads in English, French, Hungarian and Bambara, blending Canadian- and Hungarian-influenced folk with centuries-old Mandingo grooves in a perfect and surprising blend. Based on her mastery of the bewitching 21-string kora, the instrument she chose on a whim after a long career on the violin, the music of the woman who followed the teachings of master Toumani Diabaté is truly enchanting. Winner of the Prix Coup de coeur 2022 Télé-Québec at the MUZ | Vision Diversité competition, her debut album, Bamako, released on the Disques Nuits d’Afrique label in 2023, features two tracks with Habib Koité.
