Sous la direction de Mohamed Mara Ginola, démonstration éloquente de djembés, dunduns, cloches, tchekeres, balafons à l’appui, Benkadi, qui signifie “fraternité” en Malinké, livre son âme depuis 2011 dans une démonstration authentique et captivante des traditions millénaires de l’empire de Soundiata Keita, invitant le public à s’imprégner par les sens des rythmes pluriels, chants et danses exaltés.
Seeing Benkadi in concert is to give yourself up to the powerful tempo of the drums; to feel the drums beating in the depth of your being; to experience Mandinka music first-hand in all its intensity and variations. Previous Bronze Syli de la musique du monde winner, Benkadi—which means “fraternity” in the Malinké language—is led by Mohamed Mara Ginola and has been performing heart and soul since 2011, providing an authentic and captivating display of traditions dating back thousands of years, to the time of the Sundiata Kieta Empire, with lively shows of djembe, dundun, bells, shekeres, and, of course, the balafon, inviting the audience to immerse itself in Mandinka rhythms, songs and exhilarating dances.
