Voici « GNR8RZ » (on prononce generators), un groupe électrisant, au son vigoureux, dirigé par SIMON HANES, le bassiste du power trio Trigger (vu au FIMAV dans le projet « Bagatelles » de JOHN ZORN). HANES y alterne entre la guitare (bruyante) et la basse électrique (mercuriale).
La jeune violoncelliste et violoniste (aussi compositrice et artiste multidisciplinaire) ALIYA ULTAN est une découverte en soi. Son jeu survolté catapulte le groupe dans les plus hautes sphères.
Les deux autres membres sont d’une autre génération, mais ils n’ont rien à envier au dynamisme de leurs cadets! Ça fait longtemps qu’on n’a pas vu le grand claviériste ANTHONY COLEMAN au FIMAV. Acolyte régulier de ZORN dans les années 80 et 90, il a multiplié les projets au fil des ans, autant dans l’improvisation que dans la composition.
CALVIN WESTON est lui aussi une légende, ayant occupé le tabouret du batteur dans le Prime Time d’Ornette Coleman avant de se joindre au groupe de James « Blood » Ulmer, puis aux Lounge Lizards. Sa liste d’apparitions s’étend du funk rock à l’improvisation libre.

The young cellist and violinist (and composer and multidisciplinary artist) ALIYA ULTAN is a discovery on her own. Her high-voltage playing catapults the band into the stratosphere.
The other two members may be from an older generation, but they have no trouble matching their cadets’ dynamism! The FIMAV is very happy to welcome again legendary keyboardist ANTHONY COLEMAN, who was a regular in ZORN’s 80s and 90s projects. He remains very active in the fields of modern composition and improvisation.
Drummer CALVIN WESTON is also a legend. He used to play in Ornette Coleman’s Prime Time before joining James “Blood” Ulmer’s group, and later The Lounge Lizards. His credentials run the gamut from funk rock to free improvisation.
