LORI FREEDMAN nous propose un quintette d’improvisation libre transatlantique qui allie instruments acoustiques et électroniques, impétuosité et patience, spontanéité et écoute profonde.
La grande dame canadienne de la clarinette basse s’est entourée de musiciens triés sur le volet à l’occasion d’une résidence à Berlin en 2019. Ce projet ramène à Victoriaville deux improvisateurs de premier plan qui adorent ajouter des électroniques à leur palette sonore : le trompettiste allemand AXEL DÖRNER (dernière apparition en 2011 avec l’Ig Henneman Sextet) et l’accordéoniste américaine ANDREA PARKINS (en 2006 avec Nels Cline et Tom Rainey). Il nous permettra aussi de découvrir deux musiciens d’un grand intérêt qui n’ont pas encore foulé nos planches : le contrebassiste CHRISTOPHER A. WILLIAMS, un Américain domicilié en Autriche, et le batteur YORGOS DIMITRIADIS, d’origine grecque, mais Berlinois depuis quinze ans.
Baptisé « BeingFive », ce groupe a donné son premier concert en octobre 2019 avant de tomber en pause forcée en raison de la pandémie. Son premier album, éponyme, est paru chez Relative Pitch Records en novembre dernier et laisse deviner un de ces concerts à la fois exigeants et gratifiants qu’on aime tant au FIMAV.

Canada’s Grand Dame of the bass clarinet hand-picked musicians for a residency in Berlin in 2019. Her group is bringing back to Victoriaville two first-rate improvisers who love to add electronics to their sound palette: German trumpet player AXEL DÖRNER (last seen in 2011 with the Ig Henneman Sextet) and American accordionist ANDREA PARKINS (in 2006 with Nels Cline and Tom Rainey). And we will also discover two gifted musicians who have never played at FIMAV yet: bassist CHRISTOPHER A. WILLIAMS, an American based in Austria, and the Greece-born, Berlin-based drummer YORGOS DIMITRIADIS.
This ensemble, « BeingFive », gave its first concert in October 2019 before falling into a forced hiatus due to the pandemic. Its debut album came out on Relative Pitch Records last November and suggests that we will be treated to that kind of demanding yet oh-so satisfying concerts we love so much at FIMAV.
