Cofondée par le percussionniste Bruce Cawdron et la violoncelliste Rebecca Foon en 2001, Esmerine, plusieurs fois lauréate d’un Juno, garde un pied dans le terrain nouveau musique / expérimental de contemporains comme celui de Rachels, et l’autre dans un paysage instrumental plus viscéral et lyrique, tel que cultivé par The Dirty Three. Esmerine a sorti sept albums acclamés de musique de chambre moderne minimaliste et expressive.

Co-founded by percussionist Bruce Cawdron and cellist Rebecca Foon in 2001, multi Juno-winning Esmerine keeps one foot in the new music/experimental terrain of contemporaries like Rachels’s, and the other in a more visceral and lyrical instrumental landscape, as cultivated by the likes of The Dirty Three. Esmerine has released seven critically-acclaimed albums of minimalist, expressive modern chamber music.

Sharp blends a mastery of extended saxophone technique with customized microphones and electronics that translate his horn, breath and physical pulse into an array of triggers, samples and modular synthesis – resulting in formidable, visceral, highly evocative, and unfailingly musical works of electroacoustic biofeedback.

His new album, DEACON, is “a study rather than a story,” delving into Black, gay love and the tenderness present in the best companionships, romantic or otherwise. DEACON highlights serpent’s growth as a songwriter, taking a more straightforward approach to expression. In his love for love, serpentwithfeet is offering a look into the soul of a man who articulates his passion in a warmer, gentler way. He’s become wholly confident in his gift and messaging. Through his music, he allows compassion to be the backbone of his art, as he communes with his most loving self.

Apollo décrit son son comme un R&B alternatif avec des notes et des tons Western émouvants. Cette année, Apollo a sorti le single « LMSY » avec Kenny Flowers. Un single écrit sur sa propre expérience personnelle avec l’amour et les relations.

“Music was the first thing that I gave myself that gave itself back to me. There was just always something about the marriage of melody and emotion that captivated me. I can still remember jingles from when I was 3 because they had meaning to me. Discovering ways to create that relationship between word, sound, and emotion has always challenged and excited me. So much that I study it and am able to experiment. Music gives me a place to feel safe and free and playful. Creating music feels like alignment to me. It lifts me.”

Novo Amor au Théâtre Corona

Novo Amor, c’est Ali Lacey. Il vit à Cardiff, dans une maison qui est à la fois une maison et un studio, un endroit où le bavardage lointain d’une fête de l’autre côté de la rue, les feux d’artifice et les mouettes qui se rassemblent sur le chantier de construction d’à côté se reflètent dans ses enregistrements.

Il a commencé Novo Amor comme une sorte de projet – un acte de défi à la suite d’une rupture, mais en cours de route, de manière tout à fait inattendue, il a trouvé quelque chose de riche et de gratifiant. Il y a des années, un été passé au bord d’un lac entouré de conifères dans le nord de l’État de New York a fourni à la fois l’impulsion et l’imagerie qu’il allait utiliser pour créer son premier album Birthplace (2018).

Novo Amor is Ali Lacey. He lives in Cardiff, in a house that’s part-home, part-studio, a place where the distant chatter of a party across the street, fireworks and the seagulls that congregate on the building site next door bleed into his recordings.

He began Novo Amor as a project of sorts – an act of defiance in the wake of a break-up, but along the way, quite unexpectedly, he found something rich and rewarding. Years ago, a summer spent by an evergreen-surrounded lake in upstate New York supplied both the impetus and imagery that he would use to craft his debut album Birthplace (2018).

Fondé en Novembre 2002, par les co-fondateurs Ralph Condé et Ronald Marchand, Ban-Jo est un groupe musical formé de fougueux et talentueux instrumentistes.

En majorité Afro-Québécois et provenant d’un peu partout de l’industrie de la musique Antillaise, Ban-Jo réuni des professionnels de l’industrie musicale.

La couleur musicale du groupe est vraiment spéciale! C’est un exceptionnel mélange de rythmes alliant le Compas, le Soukous, le Zouk, la musique folklorique, le hip-hop et sans oublier une touche de R&B et de jazz. La puissance que donnent ces différentes touches musicales au Compas original, lui apporte aussi une nouvelle dimension.

A travers des textes actuels qui parlent d’amour et de passion, l’objectif du Groupe Ban-Jo est de faire découvrir une tendance de la nouvelle génération Compas. Une musique qui reflète le style et l’histoire des différentes cultures qui ont touchées le compas et qui le place aujourd’hui au niveau international.

Big Four est un quartet réuni en 2009 à l’initiative du saxophoniste Julien Soro. Le line up singulier de ce quartet à deux vents et deux percussions (saxophone/sousaphone et vibraphone/batterie) révèle dès la première écoute un son de groupe inédit et une palette de timbres rarement exploitée par une telle formation. Les compositions de Julien Soro deviennent au fil du temps un terrain d’exploration collective où la spontanéité et la profusion rythmique sont au centre des débats. Les musiciens de Big Four cherchent cet espace entre conscience et relâchement qui leur permettrait de donner du mouvement au son. Retoucher à cet état enfantin où le « jeu » est omniprésent…

Big Four is a quartet founded in 2009 by saxophonist Julien Soro. The singular line up of this quartet with two wind and two percussion instruments (saxophone/sousaphone and vibraphone/drums) reveals from the very first listen an original group sound and a palette of tones rarely explored by such a group. Julien Soro’s compositions become over time a field of collective exploration where spontaneity and rhythmic profusion are at the centre of the debate. The musicians of Big Four are looking for that space between awareness and relaxation which would allow them to give movement to the sound. Returning to that childlike state where “play” is omnipresent…

Sheenah Ko est une artiste pop expérimentale de Montréal qui a juste sorti son 2e album, Future Is Now (Lazy At Work, juin 2022). Des vibrations profondes et atmosphériques crée par les synthétiseurs analogues, des voix dynamiques et des rythmes entraînants, ses spectacles live emmènent son public dans un voyage envoûtant, parfois en transe, parfois dancey, mais toujours intéressant et amusant.

Sheenah Ko is an experimental pop artist from Montreal who just released her 2nd album, Future Is Now (Lazy at Work, June 2022). Deep and atmospheric vibes with analog synthesizers, dynamic vocals and driving beats, her live shows take her audiences on an entrancing journey, sometimes trancey, sometimes dancey, but all around, interesting and fun.

La tempête astucieuse de rock indépendant de ZINNIA est une expérience de pop réfléchie et expansive qui bouge vraiment. L’écrivain et leader Rachael Cardiello est inébranlable mais dynamique dans son exploration de la joie avec profondeur.

Nico Paulo is a Portuguese/Canadian singer songwriter and multidisciplinary artist. Her music is tender and dreamy distinct by her singing melodies and harmonies that pierce through the heart.

Best Fern est Alexia Avina et Nick Schofield – un duo de pop ambiante formé à l’origine dans le quartier Mile End de Montréal. Les deux membres travaillent à distance entre New York et Gatineau alors qu’ils se préparent à sortir leur premier album Earth Then Air en 2023 avec Backward Music et Youngbloods. Earth Then Air a été créé au cours d’une résidence très productive de deux semaines au Banff Centre dans les Rocky Mountains. Le duo a déjà fait la première partie d’Angel Olsen et de Sarah Davachi, et a joué à SXSW, Suoni Per Il Popolo et POP Montréal.

Best Fern is Alexia Avina and Nick Schofield – an ambient pop duo originally formed in Montreal’s Mile End neighbourhood. The two members now work long-distance between New York City and Gatineau as they prepare to release their debut album Earth Then Air in 2023 via Backward Music and Youngbloods. Earth Then Air was created during a highly productive two week residency at the Banff Centre in the Rocky Mountains. The duo have previously opened for Angel Olsen and Sarah Davachi, and played at SXSW, Suoni Per Il Popolo and POP Montreal.

The Doxas Brothers au Dièse Onze

Les frères Doxas font de la musique ensemble depuis qu’ils sont au berceau. Élevés dans un foyer musical au son de leur père, George, qui dirigeait des répétitions de chorales complètes dans leur salon et organisait des sessions de jam dans leur home studio, il ne fallut pas longtemps pour que Jim et Chet puissent se joindre à eux et que leur chemin musical s’allume devant eux.

Au milieu de leur adolescence, à la grande inquiétude de leurs parents, les deux frères commencent à travailler régulièrement dans des boîtes de nuit. Ils sont à la fin de ce qu’on pourrait appeler le « bon vieux temps » de Montréal. Au début, ils jouaient dans des groupes de danse, des clubs de rock n roll, des soirées mondaines, des émissions de radio et même des revues burlesques. Depuis cette époque, Jim et Chet ont fait le tour du monde avec les plus grands noms du jazz, dont Carla Bley, Oliver Jones, Dave Douglas, John Abercrombie, Steve Swallow, Joe Lovano et bien d’autres.

Bien que Jim et Chet se soient produits un nombre incalculable de fois ensemble dans divers contextes, leur nouveau groupe, The Doxas Brothers, représente deux musiciens ayant un lien profond et partageant leur vision dans le cadre d’un quartet. Le bassiste, Adrian Vedady, est un associé de longue date des deux frères.

The Doxas brothers have been making music together since they were in the crib. Raised in a musical home to the sounds of their father, George, conducting full choirs rehearsals in their living room and having jam sessions in their home studio, it wasn’t long before Jim and Chet were able join in and their musical paths were ignited ahead of them.

By the time they had reached their mid-teens, much to their parents’ concerns, both brothers began working regularly in nightclubs. They caught the tail end of what could be the called the “good old days“ of Montreal. Early work found them playing in dance bands, rock n roll clubs, society parties, radio shows and even burlesque reviews. Since those early days, Jim and Chet have gone on to tour the world with many of the greatest names in jazz including, Carla Bley, Oliver Jones, Dave Douglas, John Abercrombie, Steve Swallow, Joe Lovano and many more.

Although Jim and Chet have performed countless times together in various settings, their new group, The Doxas Brothers, represents two musicians with a deep bond sharing their vision in a quartet setting. Bassist, Adrian Vedady has been a long-time associate of both brothers.

Chargé de touche froid, mode androgène et de synthétiseurs, fauxcils brûlent un paysage sonore luxuriant de machines séquencé, d’instruments chorusé et de visages peints.

Goth pop duo fauxcils excavate and sift the weighted pasts of Jenn Herd and Dunstan Topp, two francophone artists from Sudbury, Ontario. Fueled from cold love, androgynous fashion and synthesizers, fauxcils burn a lush soundscape of sequin sequences, drum machines, chorused instruments and painted faces.

Swim Team est un groupe de rock 3 pièces originaire de Vancouver. Durant ces 3 dernières années le groupe a passé tout leur temps à travaillé sur leur troisième album Hurricane, qui incorpore des éléments de pop, de dance musique ainsi que d’autres expérimentations électroniques.

Swim Team is a three-piece rock band from Vancouver, BC. Over the last 3 years, the band has been working on their third full-length album “Hurricane”, which incorporates elements of Pop and Dance music, as well as further electronic experimentation.

Gorgeous est un groupe de noise pop basé à New York. Leur premier album, Egg, est sorti en 2019 avec Sad Cactus Records–quelques singles se sont matérialisés en 2021 et un deuxième album complet vous chatouillera les tympans dans un avenir pas trop lointain.

Gorgeous is a two-piece noise pop band from New York City. The band’s first full length ‘Egg’ was released in 2019 by Sad Cactus Records; a couple of singles materialized in 2021 and a second full length album is nearing completion and will be tickling ear drums in the not too distant future.
